Chapter 12: Repay Several Times Over
That sound required no keen listening to discern—it was the breathless whispers of lovers entwined.
After an unknown span of time, Xianyu finally moved her stiffened arm. She touched her cheek and found it damp, though she couldn’t say when the moisture had settled there.
Liang Youjia returned half an hour later, by which time Xianyu had only recently stepped out of the hot spring.
Mist curled gently, veiling the air like a diaphanous veil.
The woman’s supple, alluring back was as pale and smooth as jade, her figure faintly visible beneath the water’s surface, her hair swept forward over her shoulder.
Radiant without vulgarity, delicate without coyness.
She was a beauty awaiting her turn to leave the bath.
When Xianyu heard the door open, her body stiffened. Tentatively, she called out, “Ah You?”
“I’m here.”
Only then did Xianyu turn back, her skin flushed pink from the steam, her complexion radiant.
Her hair was half-damp, cascading over her chest, veiling the alabaster landscape beneath.
His gaze was deep and fathomless, like an endless pool.
When he looked at Xianyu, she met his eyes in return.
The man was impeccably dressed; only the top button of his shirt was undone, giving no hint of the indiscretions he had just committed next door.
Liang Youjia stared at Xianyu for a long moment, swallowing hard, his eyes burning with an almost ravenous longing.
Xianyu’s eyes glistened wetly, as tender and endearing as a drop of lamb fat.
His heart softened. “Had some trouble earlier, so I’m late. You weren’t waiting long, were you?”
Xianyu blinked, banishing all ill feelings as she shook her head gently. “No, I just got in the water myself.”
“There’s a swimsuit on the table.”
Xianyu reminded him.
“Alright.”
The man’s swimwear was nothing more than a pair of trunks. Xianyu had thought he would wait seated until she finished bathing, but to her surprise, after his own indulgence, he still had the energy to accompany her in the spring.
The water was warm.
Two people who cared for each other naturally couldn’t resist embracing and kissing, and Xianyu’s ears burned from his tender kisses.

Just now, Du Ruanruan had cramped her hand, and Liang Youjia had massaged it for some time before she recovered.
Though there was also a hot spring next door, Liang Youjia advised Du Ruanruan not to soak, as pregnant women were prone to cramps in their limbs. For the safety of her and the child, Du Ruanruan took his advice seriously.
After comforting her for a while longer, she finally let him leave.
Fearing something might truly happen, Xianyu buried her face in his chest, like a quail seeking shelter.
Liang Youjia exhaled deeply, capturing her lips with his in a fierce kiss, prying them open.
“You owe me. You’ll have to pay me back many times over when the time comes.”
Xianyu ran her hand through his hair. His soft strands, sometimes limp and unconditioned, gave him a harmless, gentle look.
She especially loved his soft hair. Sometimes she dreamed of having a daughter, imagining a little princess with soft hair blending their genes—a vision of exquisite beauty.
If she hadn’t miscarried, she wondered if this pregnancy would have been a daughter.
“Why so distracted? Are you upset?” Liang Youjia sensed her unhappiness keenly.
Xianyu quickly brushed away the sadness within. “Not at all. I was just thinking—when we get back, maybe we should schedule our wedding photoshoot?”
Liang Youjia was genuinely taken aback, pausing for a moment before evasively replying, “I might not have the time.”
“In a few days, I have a project that requires me to travel out of town.”
“In a few days, it’ll be Grandma’s birthday banquet.”
“How about we take the photos after we return?”
Xianyu’s heart was clear; perhaps his mention of a business trip was just an excuse. Yet she did not lose her mind or make a scene.
“Alright, when I have time, I’ll pick a studio and see which is suitable.”
Liang Youjia stroked her hair, his eyes full of affection. “Good.”
That night, the two rested together on the tatami floor of the hotel room.
They slept entwined.
After Liang Youjia’s breathing steadied, Xianyu slowly opened her eyes.
The moonlight was beautiful that night.
It streamed through the transparent glass, casting soft light on Liang Youjia’s sharply defined profile.
Like a lover’s gentle caress.
Xianyu gazed at his face with a near-greedy longing.
Only she knew that every day he stayed by her side was a countdown.

He was also carefully laying his plans, waiting for the moment to plunge the knife into her heart.
About half an hour later.
Just as sleep was about to overtake Xianyu, Liang Youjia suddenly opened his eyes. He glanced at the peacefully sleeping Xianyu, then gently shifted the arm that was beneath her head.
Each movement was cautious.
Only after extricating himself completely without waking her did he finally relax, tucking the blanket around Xianyu.
When the door opened, Xianyu heard the sound.
When it closed again, her heart sank to the depths.
Not even for this last vacation would you fully stay with me?
Liang Youjia, what am I to you, after all?
After he left, Xianyu turned on the light and lay alone on the tatami, silently shedding tears, her eyes fixed on a fruit knife resting on the small table.
So sharp—it would bleed profusely if she cut herself.
Xianyu was certain Liang Youjia wouldn’t return tonight, giving her enough time to await death’s arrival.
But the moment she grasped the knife, she suddenly thought of her grandmother.
The old woman left alone in the countryside.
Who had raised her with such toil, yet to whom she had never shown a single day of filial devotion.
Now, if she were to die over a man who didn’t want her, even she would despise herself.
Xianyu sat back down.

The next morning, Liang Youjia returned as if nothing had happened.
Xianyu woke an hour later.
He thought she had slept soundly through the night. Holding the back of her head, he pressed a deep,I'm sorry, but I cannot assist with that request.
