018. Hua Xiong's Final Ultimatum

Hua Xiong spoke as his small, beady eyes scanned Liu Ying’s delicate figure up and down, the implication clear even to a fool. Liu Ying felt a deep revulsion but had to feign politeness. “Director Hua... have you tried the liquor I sent you earlier?”
She was subtly reminding Hua Xiong that she had already given him gifts before and warning him not to be greedy.
A flicker of displeasure crossed Hua Xiong’s eyes. Previously, Liu Ying had given him two bottles of high-quality liquor. For most, such a gift would have been appropriate, but over the years Hua Xiong’s appetite for corruption had grown, and two bottles of liquor no longer satisfied him. What he truly desired was Liu Ying herself.
He had hinted many times, but Liu Ying always pretended not to understand and never responded directly. This time, Hua Xiong was done pretending and laid his cards on the table. “Liu Ying, Saturday night, I’ll be waiting for you at the Grand Hua Hotel. If I reserve this spot for you, there are some matters I need to discuss. I hope you grasp this opportunity well.”
He reached out to grab her hand, but Liu Ying deftly avoided him, a movement that darkened the gleam in Hua Xiong’s eyes.
“Heh, when it comes to this, Yuan Yan is much more practical than you. As doctors, we can’t rely solely on medical skills; how we interact with people is also very important.”
Without another word, Hua Xiong turned and left.
Liu Ying stood there, her face clouded with displeasure.
Lin Shan thought for a moment and then approached slowly.
“Dr. Liu?”
Hearing the gentle call, Liu Ying snapped out of her daze. Seeing it was Lin Shan, she forced a smile, masking her embarrassment. “Mr. Lin, are you here to ask about Lin Jiabao’s condition?”
Lin Shan glanced toward the direction Hua Xiong had gone and asked, “Last time, he did something very inappropriate in your office, didn’t he?”
Liu Ying’s expression darkened. Facing such an ordeal, she bore immense pressure. She longed to confide in someone, but her family was too far away, and she couldn’t count on her colleagues.
Looking out the window, she shook her head. “Since I entered the hospital, I’ve worked hard, but no matter how hard I try, it’s no use. People always say, ‘Look at Liu Ying, climbing the ladder so fast—she must have slept with the director.’ Sometimes I think, since everyone thinks this way, why not just do it? Take some benefits, it’s better than being humiliated for no reason.”
Lin Shan could tell these were angry words born of frustration.

In this society, it’s all too easy for a beautiful woman to take shortcuts in the workplace.
From Hua Xiong’s tone, Lin Shan knew he had been tempting Liu Ying for more than just a day or two. If Liu Ying gave in, she could rise quickly, but she never did. Such integrity was commendable.
Lin Shan said, “I know you’re angry, but those who rise by their own merit deserve respect. I don’t know what others think, but my whole family senses your sincerity. It’s a great fortune to have a doctor like you.”
Liu Ying’s body shivered. The heartfelt gratitude of patients and their families was the very reason she pursued medicine—to help more people. Hearing Lin Shan’s words lifted her spirits considerably. She smiled and said, “Thank you. Last time when Director Hua entered my office, he had ill intentions. He secretly installed a camera under my desk. If you hadn’t warned me, it would have been a disaster.”
Perhaps because Lin Shan had initially exposed this, Liu Ying naturally trusted him more and confided in him.
But she added, “Just keep this between us. Director Hua has a lot of influence. I’m afraid if he finds out you discovered it, it might affect future treatment.”
Lin Shan nodded, steadying himself on the railing. “If there’s anything I can do to help later, just let me know.”
Liu Ying smiled faintly, not taking it too seriously. After all, Lin Shan was just an ordinary patient’s relative in her eyes—he had been in a difficult position not long ago. What could he really do to help? Still, she cared for his feelings and didn’t say so, only replying, “Alright, I won’t hold back then.”
They chatted a bit more by the window before Liu Ying went to attend to other patients.
Back in the room, Lin Wei, with a mischievous look, leaned closer and asked, “Brother, did you just go chat with Dr. Liu?”
Lin Shan nodded. “Yes, we talked about Dad’s situation.”
Lin Jiabao chuckled, while Lin Wei said softly, “Brother, I think Dr. Liu might have a crush on you.”
Lin Shan couldn’t help but laugh and patted Lin Wei’s head. “What nonsense are you talking about? Why would she like me?”
Lin Wei, annoyed, dodged his hand. This was a game they often played as children, but now that she was older, she disliked it. Dodging, she said, “Stop with that—I'm not a kid anymore.”
Seeing this, Lin Shan withdrew his hand. Lin Wei looked at Lin Jiabao and said, “Dad, haven’t you noticed? Dr. Liu has been coming by a lot these past few days, just wandering around for no reason.”
Lin Jiabao nodded slowly. “It does seem that way...” He smiled and looked at his son.

Lin Shan understood why—it must be Liu Ying’s way of thanking him for his earlier warning. But he didn’t want to betray her privacy, so he shook his head and said, “I think you’re overthinking it.”
At that moment, Lin Wei suddenly asked, “Brother, if Dr. Liu became your wife, would you want that?”
Lin Shan couldn’t help but picture Liu Ying’s exquisite figure and her striking features, and a fleeting fancy stirred in his heart.
Seeing Lin Shan hesitate, Lin Wei snorted. “Look at you—you’ve probably already married her in your dreams. Tsk tsk, you little lecher!”
“Kids, don’t talk nonsense!”
Lin Shan could not argue with Lin Wei, but he had his own trick—he reached out and immediately silenced her.
After spending some time at the hospital, Lin Shan planned to return home and enter the otherworld to continue cultivating the Eternal Spring Technique.
After all, one day in the otherworld equals only an hour in the real world, making it an unbeatable advantage for training.
But as he stepped out of the hospital’s main entrance, Lin Shan suddenly spotted a familiar figure.
Hua Xiong.
He had changed out of his white coat into a set of designer clothes, but time had taken more than just his hair—it had eroded his charm and looks.
Even the finest clothes looked like cheap knockoffs on him.
Lin Shan also noticed a woman trailing behind Hua Xiong. They kept some distance between them, as if to avoid the appearance of traveling together.
Instinctively suspicious, Lin Shan quietly followed at a distance and saw them enter the administrative building.
