Chapter Sixty-Four: The Shadow of the Whale Demon
Qiu Mulan ran away.
She had been contemplating this from early morning.
Fei Fengxue treated her as nothing more than a tool for yin cultivation; she was fully aware of it. Now, having mastered the dual cultivation method of yin and yang, she could finally break free from Fei Fengxue. Why risk herself alongside him any longer? The moment he abandoned her, Qiu Mulan understood that, in his eyes, she was merely an instrument.
“Clever girl—she escaped quickly.”
Baili Feihong gazed out at the tranquil sea.
This beauty, wielding a massive sword, possessed a technique that allowed her to survive in the deep sea, as if she were a white dragon among the waves.
“Since you led me to the pirates’ stronghold, I’ll spare your life.”
If he truly wished to kill the sword-wielding woman, Baili Feihong was confident he could catch her.
The pirate ship had not departed, nor had they noticed his presence.
“Did I trust her too much?”
“Was I too certain she would return?”
Baili Feihong grinned silently, dropping his backpack onto the shore—everything he owned.
He activated the technique “Free Roaming”, and a peculiar force lifted him as he leapt and walked atop the waves.
“Enemy attack!!!”
The horn sounded.
As dawn broke, a beam of sunlight illuminated the sea’s surface. The pirates, vigilant and tense, finally spotted Baili Feihong.
Clad in a dark robe embroidered with golden serpents, he shone brilliantly in the morning light.
“It’s the Demon Suppression Bureau—it’s them!”
The pirates aboard the ship screamed in terror.
Fei Fengxue, hearing the horn, immediately withdrew from the woman, hastily dressed, and rushed to the deck.
Three ironclad ships, one already overrun.
Flames soared skyward.
A young man in the uniform of a Demon Suppressor, his hands glowing crimson, struck a pirate with his palm. The intense heat ignited the pirate’s fat, turning him instantly into a blazing corpse, reduced to charcoal.
“Run!!!”
The few remaining pirates plunged into the sea, scrambling to escape.
But Baili Feihong would not let them go.
He pulled out a silver coin, flicked it, each coin claiming a head.
From the deck to the slaughter, it took only a dozen breaths.
Fei Fengxue was stunned by the strength of this Demon Suppressor before him.
His arrival meant that Qiu Mulan, whom Fei Fengxue had sent out, had already met her end.
In that instant, Fei Fengxue, the old rogue, formulated a plan.
“Kill!!! The deputy leader is dead! Whoever kills him takes the deputy’s place immediately!”
“Gunners, bombardiers—blast him to pieces!”
With great reward comes great courage.
Pirates aboard the other two ironclads fought with extraordinary valor.
Guns and cannons targeted the first ship, their fire crossing in a frenzied barrage.
In moments, the ironclad was reduced to ruins.
Baili Feihong plunged into the sea. Though bullets could not cause him much harm, they still stung.
Diving deep, Baili Feihong moved like a dragon, leaving a long white trail beneath the waves.
He drew near the bottom of the ironclad and, with bare hands, tore a gaping hole, letting seawater surge in as he entered the ship.
He slaughtered his way up from below, ghostly in his movements.
He entered the pirate ranks.
A flood of notifications from skill books sounded in his ears.
He realized that killing pirates also earned him skill points.
The second ironclad fell.
“Boss, boss…”
The surviving pirates on the third ship called for their leader.
The other captains, seeing their leader gone, quickly understood: he had abandoned them and slipped away through the sea.
Without hesitation, relying on their swimming skills, they all jumped into the water.
The pirates’ morale on the ironclad deck collapsed.
They immediately steered the pirate ship away from the scene.
Standing on the second ironclad, Baili Feihong revealed a grim smile.
He stomped on the steel deck, crushing it beneath his foot.
His body shot out like a cannonball, smashing into the third ship.
The steel plates, under his force, tore open like paper.
“Spare me!”
“I surrender, I surrender!”
“Kill!”
Shouts, cries, and the sounds of battle quickly ceased.
“Do you think you can escape?”
Baili Feihong watched as the pirates swam deeper into the sea.
Just then, Baili Feihong suddenly looked up, gazing into the depths.
A massive shadow lurked beneath the waves.
Its terrifying shape sent chills down his spine, every hair standing on end.
A sense of imminent danger warned him: if he did not leave now, his life was truly at risk.
This monstrous demon far exceeded his capability.
Without hesitation, he performed Free Roaming and returned to the island.
The pirates who had jumped into the sea did not sense the impending threat.
Such a colossal demon was rare indeed.
His sharp gaze pierced the tumultuous waves, tracing the outline of the enormous shadow in the water.
A strange thought flashed through Baili Feihong’s mind.
Years ago, Dongbin City had prospered after its first Guardian slew the Kun demon.
Whenever a demon of such immense size was mentioned, it inevitably referred to the Kun demon.
“Could this whale demon be a descendant of the Kun demon?”
The thought made Baili Feihong’s heart burn.
If it truly were a Kun descendant, slaying it would make him famous among the Demon Suppression Bureau.
But wait, why should he seek fame within the Bureau?
It would only attract hatred, envy, and the wrath of fate.
Until he possessed the power to control his own destiny, it was wise to develop quietly.
“The demon… the demon is here, run!!!”
The pirates screamed in terror, fear overwhelming them.
Everyone knew that whale demons haunted the HLD.
That was precisely their purpose: to hunt the whale demon.
If their three ironclads were intact and both leaders present, they would not fear.
But the Demon Suppressor’s surprise attack had left them severely injured; how could they face the whale demon now?
At that moment, a massive whirlpool appeared on the sea’s surface.
It transformed into a giant abyssal maw, swallowing pirates and ships alike.
Swiftly consumed, swiftly vanished.
“Was it the scent of blood that drew this demon here?”
Baili Feihong was uncertain.
But he knew well that hunting the whale demon in the ocean was nearly impossible.
On land, facing such a massive Kun demon, he could rely on the unique powers of Free Roaming to maneuver and seek opportunity.
But in the depths, no matter how well he honed his wave-riding dragon technique, he could not match the whale demon’s advantages underwater.
He picked up his backpack, took up the Blood Sea Blade, and turned to leave.
The beasts on the island had not all been slain.
“1350!”
This battle with the pirates had earned him a staggering 1,350 skill points.
It was quite a fortune.
His total skill points now reached 2,775.
A considerable sum, yet further cultivation required even more.
He took out the Demon Compass and continued hunting monsters.
By noon, Baili Feihong had exterminated every beast on the island.
He gained another six hundred skill points.
The bodies of the slain monsters, after processing, were all stored in the cave camp left by the pirates.
He lifted the hundred-thousand-pound Dragon Severing Stone with both hands.
“Let the cultivation begin.”
