Wen Miaohan clicked on the special medicine’s “use” option in a fury. She needed to see just how powerful this miraculous drug was that had been forced upon her as a correction tool.

【This special medicine can eliminate one cancer cell each time it is taken. Use now?】

Wen Miaohan decisively chose “Yes.”

No sooner had she confirmed it in her mind than she felt a tiny object appear in her right palm.

She slightly opened her eyes, raised her right hand to her mouth, and feigned a cough twice. Taking advantage of the moment, she slipped the small pill under her tongue, then weakly said, “I want some water.”

Wen Miaoting hurried to pour her a glass of water, Wen Haoyu rocked the bed gently, and Wen Haoxuan brought a pillow to support her waist. The family’s care for Wen Miaohan was nothing short of tender.

After taking the medicine, Wen Miaohan intended to close her eyes and continue studying the system. But just as she did, more visitors arrived in the hospital room.

“Zhaoyang, I saw on the news that Miaohan is very ill. I came to check on her. How is she?”

The visitor entered loudly, asking Wen’s father without any regard for hospital etiquette.

It was Cao Zhiwei, Wen’s father’s longtime friend, accompanied by his son, Cao Ye—Wen Miaohan’s former fiancé.

Cao Ye reluctantly greeted Wen’s parents.

“Uncle, Auntie, good morning.”

Wen’s parents nodded coolly, not particularly fond of Cao Ye.

In Jing City, there were three great families: Wen, Cao, and Ye. The Wen and Cao families were venerable lineages that had lasted since the last century, while the Ye family was a recent rising power.

The ties between the Wen and Cao families were deeper. Wen’s father and Cao’s father had grown up together in the business world, forging a strong friendship that led to a marriage alliance between their children.

Wen Miaohan and Cao Ye were engaged shortly after high school, planning to marry after college. However, during university, Cao Ye fell for someone else and tried to break off the engagement, only to be forcibly restrained by his father.

When the truth of Wen Miaohan having been switched at birth came out and she moved away from the Wen family, Cao’s patriarch assumed that the Wens had rejected her, and so the engagement was finally annulled as Cao Ye wished.

Although Cao’s father and Wen’s father maintained a cordial relationship, decades of navigating the cutthroat business world had shaped their differing principles.

The Wen family’s values had always emphasized integrity over wealth, kindness over power. Conscience was the baseline for actions; character was the family’s true capital; and family was the cornerstone of lineage.

The Cao family’s creed was straightforward and ruthless: “Profit above all.”

So, when the Cao family proposed breaking the engagement, the Wen family neither took offense nor was surprised. In fact, they were quietly relieved. Cao Ye had strayed far from being a suitable match.

If Wen Miaohan hadn’t been so deeply attached, the Wen family would have ended the engagement long ago.

“Zhiwei, what brings you here?” Wen’s father asked coldly. As for Cao Ye, no one in the Wen family cared to acknowledge him.

Feigning concern, Cao Zhiwei replied, “How could I not come when Hanhan is sick? I was just delayed last night with business and didn’t see the message until this morning. Otherwise, I would have come last night.”

After speaking, he lightly patted Cao Ye’s shoulder. “Why are you standing there like a fool? Go over and check on Miaohan.”

He pushed Cao Ye toward the bedside.

Wen’s mother and the others instinctively glanced at Wen Miaohan, curious about her reaction.

At that moment, Wen Miaohan was utterly indifferent to the outside world, her mind occupied solely with the system’s prompt to correct the story.

Cao Ye’s arrival triggered an internal alert from the system about an illogical plot development. It repeatedly urged Wen Miaohan to execute the correction.

【Alert: The second main character has appeared. Please proceed with the story correction.】

“Why do I have to correct it again?”

“Wait, let me see what’s illogical about this scene first.”

Wen Miaohan muttered as she opened the second plotline’s evaluation.

The second plot described how the original character, upon learning of her illness, returned to the Wen family during a break from filming, hoping to share one last meal with her family.

However, when she arrived, Cao Zhiwei and Cao Ye were there. Seeing Cao Ye stirred strong emotions in her—after all, he was the only person she had ever truly loved during her youth, and if the story went awry, he would remain her one true love for life.

Though their engagement had been broken, she thought that old feelings remained, and at least they could be friends.

But Cao Ye, hurt and embittered by his failed university romance, blamed her for his misfortune. He showed her no kindness; instead, he verbally humiliated her and tried to drive her away.

Still, this was the Wen household, and Cao Ye did not have the authority to force her out. The Wen family would never turn their daughter away.

Yet the original character, wounded by Cao Ye’s cruelty, broke down and left, missing the only chance to reunite and dine with her family.

【Illogical plot judgment: The heroine is not naïve or blindly romantic. She returned to be with her family, not to be humiliated by Cao Ye. She should never have forfeited her sole opportunity to reunite with her family because of him.】

Damn, did I really write this? The heroine was way too submissive! Such a man should have been tossed into the Pacific Ocean long ago. Why keep him around to degrade herself?

While Wen Miaohan closed her eyes to sort through the plot, Wen’s mother whispered softly, “Hanhan, your Uncle Cao and Cao Ye came to see you.”

After waiting a moment and seeing no reaction, she assumed Wen Miaohan wanted to speak privately with Cao Ye, so she said, “Zhaoyang, let’s go to the next room.”

Wen’s father understood immediately and told Cao Zhiwei, “Zhiwei, let’s go next door to give these young ones some space with Hanhan.”

Cao Zhiwei nodded and gave Cao Ye a meaningful glance before following Wen’s father and the others.

Over the past few months, cooperation between the Cao and Wen families had been troubled. Cao Zhiwei had initially thought the issues were simply due to poor project management.

Only after seeing Wen Miaohan fall ill and the Wen family gather at the hospital did he realize his grave error. He immediately recalled Cao Ye from abroad, and the moment Cao Ye arrived this morning, he stormed to the hospital.

Wen Haoxuan and Wen Haoyu cast cold glances at Cao Ye as they left, openly showing their disdain.

Cao Ye was well aware of the Wen family’s disapproval. He didn’t care. In fact, he secretly wished the animosity would grow—to the point that the two families would sever all ties forever. The more estranged the Cao and Wen families became, the better for him.
