Chapter 3: Backlash
“Hey, could you two loosen your grip? It hurts. Just tell me where you want me to go, and I’ll go with you.”
Neither Wen Haoyu nor the other person responded at all. Wen Miaohan was taken into the car just like that.
“The name of the hospital.”
Wen Haoyu asked coldly.
Wen Miaohan was a bit confused. “What?”
“Miaohan, which hospital did you go to for treatment?” Wen Miaoting helped clarify.
“Oh, Jing City First Hospital.”
“Drive.”
On the way to the hospital, Wen Haoyu held Wen Miaohan’s wrist tightly without letting go, as if loosening his grip would cause her to die instantly.
Before it was revealed that Wen Miaohan was a fake heiress, Wen Haoyu and Wen Miaohan shared the closest bond. They were close in age; he was her childhood playmate, her school bodyguard, and later her direct superior at work.
Even after learning that Wen Miaohan was not his biological sister, her place in Wen Haoyu’s heart never changed.
No—more accurately, Wen Miaohan’s status in the Wen family remained unchanged. Over twenty years of living together and emotional ties could not simply be undone by a lack of blood relation.
The reason Wen Miaohan was publicly exposed as not the true heiress of the Wen family and forced out was at her own request. She felt she had occupied Wen Miaoting’s position for over twenty years and now wanted to return it openly and honorably.
Wen Miaoting had suffered for so many years; she must suffer as well to repay that. So Wen Miaohan asked the Wen family to withdraw all privileges once granted to her and treat her as an outsider.
Although no one in the Wen family understood why the true heiress’s return meant the fake heiress had to endure hardship, they doted on Wen Miaohan so much that they agreed to let her suffer for a few months symbolically.
In the end, it was the author Wen Miaohan herself who had set such a brutal plot when writing this story—purely for the sake of torment.
Throughout the ride to the hospital, their phones kept ringing, but no one answered.
Wen Miaohan couldn’t pick up since both her hands were occupied; Wen Haoyu didn’t want to answer; and Wen Miaoting was too afraid to pick up.
In the doctor’s office.
Only after hearing the doctor explain Wen Miaohan’s condition did Wen Haoyu realize she wasn’t joking.
Wen Miaohan thought he would finally loosen his grip, but after the detailed diagnosis, Wen Haoyu insisted on taking her to the Wen family’s private hospital, bluntly calling the public top-tier hospital’s doctors incompetent.
Wen Miaohan wanted to ask, “Excuse me?”
By the time they arrived at the private hospital, the Wen family had also gathered there.
The Wen family members, unable to contact Wen Miaohan, had learned from the hospital that Wen Haoyu was bringing her over and rushed there immediately.
Only Wen Haoran, the third young master in charge of the family’s medical business, was currently on a business trip in the United States, hastily boarding a private jet to return home.
As soon as Wen Miaohan stepped out of the car, she was enveloped in a warm embrace. “Don’t be afraid, Hanhan. Our family has the best medical team. You’ll be fine.”
Mrs. Wen, though her eyes were red from crying, suppressed her fear and sorrow to gently comfort Wen Miaohan.
Wen Miaohan thought, I can’t say I’m not scared at all, can I?
With such a large gathering of the Wen family and Wen Miaohan’s illness now public, a crowd of paparazzi had already staked out the hospital entrance.
The flashing cameras caught Mrs. Wen’s attention, prompting her to release Wen Miaohan and escort her inside.
Wen Haoyu, trailing behind, cast a cold glance at the paparazzi but gave no orders to his bodyguards.
He wanted those images to be spread, so everyone would know that Wen Miaohan had always been the precious treasure of the Wen family.
Surrounded by the entourage, Wen Miaohan underwent a series of examinations. Some were truly torturous. The stark reality of being diagnosed with stomach cancer hit her, leaving her pale and weak on the hospital bed.
She was wrong!
Next time she wrote a story, she would never make the protagonist a terminal patient.
Even if it had to be a tragedy, the protagonist should at least die decisively.
“Miaohan, you must be in a lot of pain! How could you keep something this serious from the family?”
Mrs. Wen gently wiped the sweat from Wen Miaohan’s forehead with a wet towel, lamenting with a heart full of worry.
Wen Miaohan was too weak to respond. More so, she felt no emotional connection to the Wen family, so Mrs. Wen’s concern failed to move her.
“Haoyu, how could you not know your sister was sick?”
Their anxious father directed his anger at Wen Haoyu.
Emboldened by the father’s reprimand, Mrs. Wen also spoke up in anger, “Haoyu, you’ve been running the entertainment company for years and still can’t tell a good person from a bad one? Why did you let all kinds of villains near your sister?”
“I’ve never even lifted a finger against my sister. That Fang Le—how dare she? And that traitorous Ye Lin as well.”
“Wen Haoyu, if you can’t deal with these two, I don’t think you should stay here and trouble Miaohan any longer.”
Wen Haoyu lowered his head, accepting his parents’ criticism with a solemn expression.
At this moment, no one hated himself more than he did.
After Wen Miaohan entered the entertainment industry, she had always been under Fang Le’s care. Fang Le’s work was competent, and Wen Haoyu had never heard a single complaint from Wen Miaohan about her character.
That was why, even after the revelation that Wen Miaohan was not the true heiress, Wen Haoyu continued to let Fang Le manage her, thinking they had built a foundation over the years and were familiar with each other.
But who would have thought she would betray Miaohan so cruelly?
It was his fault for elevating Fang Le too highly for Miaohan’s sake.
No matter. If she didn’t want to stay in heaven, then let her experience hell.
As for Ye Lin, if she loved living like a maggot in a dark gutter, then she could remain in darkness forever.
Before Wen Haoyu could take action, Fang Le and Ye Lin had already descended into hell.
When Fang Le spread rumors about Wen Miaohan going to the hospital alone at midnight and the team having a party in the office, Ye Lin’s identity as the number one secret hater was exposed. Wen Miaohan’s fans couldn’t sit still.
Fans living near the company rushed to block Fang Le and Ye Lin at the company’s entrance.
Fang Le and Ye Lin reacted quickly and left the company as Wen Haoyu escorted Wen Miaohan away.
But leaving the company did not help; their personal information was leaked online. Ye Lin didn’t even dare to go home and instead huddled with Fang Le.
“Ding dong…”
The doorbell kept ringing. Each time it rang, Fang Le’s irritation grew, and Ye Lin’s fear increased.
These were delivery people ringing the bell, each time leaving a wreath, white candles, and yellow paper offerings at Fang Le’s door.
Wen Miaohan’s fans were clearly demanding they die instantly so they could be sent off properly.
“These people are insane!!!”
Back when Wen Miaohan was being slandered, Fang Le and Ye Lin split the profits and enjoyed themselves, spending money on bar boys and having a grand time.
Now, with the tides turned and caught in the eye of a storm of hatred themselves, they finally realized just how terrifying overwhelming malice could be.
