Chapter 39: Bullying Others by Borrowing Power!
This is absolutely absurd!
The Niannian he knew was a soft, adorable, and perhaps even slightly timid little rice ball. Aside from fighting, even if someone snatched her toys, she would probably only hide away to shed tears by herself.
The teacher’s voice carried a hint of impatience: "Mr. Chen, it would be best if you came over to discuss the situation in person. The other parents have already arrived, and this matter needs to be resolved as soon as possible."
With that, she hung up.
Chen Yu stood frozen on the spot, clutching his phone, his mind in total chaos. The audience in the livestream was equally stunned.
[A fight? Niannian got into a fight? Did I hear that right?]
[Impossible! Absolutely impossible! How could a sweet, sensible little angel like Niannian get into a fight?]
[There must be some mistake! Or maybe she was bullied by some brat!]
[God Yu, hurry over and see! I’m dying of anxiety! My precious Niannian must not be wronged!]
[Exactly, don't just stand there! Get to the school right now!]
The viewers' urgings snapped Chen Yu back to reality. He didn't even care about the game anymore; he shut down his computer, grabbed his keys, and bolted out the door.
Only one thought occupied his mind:
My daughter is so well-behaved; she must have been bullied!
If anyone dares to bully my daughter, Chen Yu, I’ll be damned if I don’t make them pay!
Burning with anxiety, Chen Yu jumped on his little electric scooter, twisted the throttle to the max, and sped toward the First Primary School like a whirlwind. Along the way, he ran several red lights, completely oblivious to the traffic cameras flashing. At this moment, nothing mattered more than his daughter.
...
Standing before this magnificent "castle" once again, Chen Yu’s mood was entirely different. He tossed his electric scooter at the gate, not even bothering to lock it, and hurried inside.
"Sir, hello, who are you looking for?" the security guard at the gate asked, blocking him politely.
"I'm looking for Ms. Wang! My daughter’s name is Chen Nian!" Chen Yu was drenched in sweat.
The guard confirmed his identity via walkie-talkie before letting him through. The school was massive, with several independent teaching buildings, each designed to look like a fairytale cottage. Looking at the identical buildings, Chen Yu felt lost.
Oh no.
When he dropped Niannian off this morning, he had been too busy marveling at the school’s luxury to remember which class or building she was in. This was embarrassing.
He had only known Niannian for a few days, and aside from what she liked to eat and her favorite toys, he knew almost nothing about her. He had only just learned her homeroom teacher's name.
Chen Yu stood at a crossroads, looking bewildered. The audience in the livestream saw this clearly. The comments, previously filled with worry, shifted once again.
[...No way? He doesn't even know which class his own daughter is in?]
[Damn, for real? This is just too ridiculous!]
[I take back what I said earlier; he’s not a good father at all! What kind of dad doesn't even know where his child's classroom is?]
[Unbelievable, I've really seen it all now. At least Zhao Kai knows which school and class his son is in! This Chen Yu...]
[Looks like he’s the same type as Zhao Kai. All that gentleness and care was probably just an act for us, right?]
[He’s only good at cooking, other than that, he’s useless!]
[His wife must be incredibly careless to leave her child with such an unreliable man.]
[I feel so sorry for Niannian, ending up with a father like this.]
Chen Yu couldn't hear the audience's mockery. He only felt flustered and anxious, sweat beading even more heavily on his forehead. With no other choice, he braced himself and stopped a passing teacher, asking breathlessly:
"Excuse me, teacher, do you happen to know... uh, where Ms. Wang’s office is? The one who teaches the junior class."
The female teacher looked him up and down and pointed to the second floor of a nearby building.
"Thank you! Thank you so much!"
Chen Yu thanked her and ran toward the building. He rushed up to the second floor in one breath and finally found the room labeled "Teacher’s Office" at the end of the corridor.
He pushed the door open and entered.
The atmosphere in the office was suffocating. A teacher wearing an exquisite suit with impeccable makeup sat behind the desk, looking stern—this must be Ms. Wang. Beside her stood a well-dressed couple; the man in a tailored suit with gold-rimmed glasses, and the woman dripping in jewelry, carrying a limited-edition Hermes bag.
Standing in front of them were two small figures. One was Niannian.
She kept her head down, her small body trembling slightly. There were mud stains on her white princess dress, and her eyes were red-rimmed, tears welling up but stubbornly refusing to fall. Seeing her looking as if she were about to cry broke Chen Yu’s heart.
The other was a chubby little boy with a sturdy build. He was puffing out his chest with arrogance. Although there were clear red marks on his face, his momentum was entirely undaunted as he cast defiant glares at Niannian from time to time.
Seeing this, a surge of rage ignited in Chen Yu’s heart. He rushed over in two strides and pulled the trembling Niannian into his arms.
"Niannian, don't be afraid, Daddy is here."
His voice trembled with anger. The little girl in his arms stiffened, then, as if she had finally found her support, she burst into tears.
"Daddy... *sob*... it wasn't me..."
Hearing his daughter’s voice, Chen Yu’s heart shattered. He patted her back gently and lifted his head, fixing an icy gaze on Ms. Wang.
Ms. Wang clearly hadn't expected Chen Yu to look like this. A washed-out T-shirt, wrinkled shorts, and flip-flops—he exuded the air of cheap, street-market goods. Compared to the man next to her in an Armani suit wearing a Patek Philippe watch, the contrast was stark.
Ms. Wang’s brow furrowed involuntarily, and her look of disdain became undisguised. She cleared her throat and spoke in a condescending, judgmental tone.
"You are Chen Nian’s father?"
Her voice was cold and harsh, omitting even the basic politeness of "you."
"Your child hit someone at school; don't you, as a parent, have any responsibility? How exactly do you raise your child? A little girl, being so savage and aggressive—who did she learn this from?"
The barrage of questions came like a machine gun, giving Chen Yu no chance to explain. She hadn't even asked for the sequence of events before passing judgment on Niannian.
The chubby boy’s mother chimed in with a sarcastic tone:
"Oh, Ms. Wang, don't bother. Just look at how this man is dressed, and you know what kind of family environment she comes from. Like family, like child."
"We’ve taught our Kaikai to be a gentleman since he was small; he would never be the one to provoke others."
