Chapter 40: Who Do You Think You Are?
"Look at our poor Kai, his face has been scratched up like this," she said, stroking her son's cheek with a heart-wrenching expression. "What are we going to do if he's permanently scarred?"
The man in the gold-rimmed glasses remained silent. He merely pushed up his spectacles coldly, casting a glance at Chen Yu as if looking at garbage.
Hearing these words that twisted the truth and used insinuations to attack him, Chen Yu felt his daughter trembling even more violently in his arms.
He laughed. It was a laugh born of extreme rage.
*Damn it,* he thought, *I haven't even asked what happened yet, and you bastards are already pinning labels on me?*
He looked at the high-and-mighty Teacher Wang, a sinister smirk curling his lips, and spoke, enunciating every word clearly.
"What the hell are you supposed to be? Do you really think you're qualified to teach me how to be a father?"
Teacher Wang’s face instantly turned the color of liver.
The bejeweled woman shrieked, "You! How dare you use such language?!"
Chen Yu ignored her entirely, his eyes locked onto Teacher Wang.
"Let me ask you: are you a teacher or a judge? Did you ask about what happened? Did you check the surveillance footage? Did you talk to both children to get the facts? You just saw a few scratches on that little brat's face and decided my daughter hit him?"
"He has injuries on his face, so what? My daughter is hurt too—are the grievances in her heart not injuries?"
"And tell me, which of your damn eyes saw my daughter acting like a savage? Is it just because I don't look as 'polished' as these people that I deserve to be prejudged by you?"
"I’m telling you, if you can’t give me a satisfactory explanation today and get an apology for the injustice my daughter has suffered, I swear I will see to it that you lose your job as a teacher! Mark my words!"
Chen Yu’s voice grew louder and colder with every sentence. His usual devil-may-care attitude had vanished completely.
The entire office fell into a deathly silence. Everyone was stunned by his sudden outburst.
Teacher Wang’s well-maintained face was a mix of shame, anger, and shock; she was rendered speechless for a moment. In all her years of teaching, the parents she dealt with were all wealthy or powerful, and they all treated her with respect and courtesy. When had she ever been cursed at right to her face?
"You... you, you..." Her finger trembled violently as she pointed at Chen Yu, unable to form a coherent sentence.
"You what? You mad dog! How dare you curse my husband?" The bejeweled woman finally snapped out of her stupor, her reaction shifting to an explosive, volcanic rage. "Who do you think you are? A pathetic loser, a pauper! How dare you run wild here? Do you have any idea who we are?"
She put her hands on her hips. "Having a parent like you is a disgrace to this elementary school! Teacher Wang, this man shouldn't be allowed through the school gates! And his daughter must be expelled—immediately, right now!"
The woman grew more agitated, spittle flying as she spoke. "If anything happens to my son, I’ll make sure your whole family pays!"
The silent man in gold-rimmed glasses finally pushed up his spectacles. He stood up and looked down at Chen Yu.
"Sir, there’s no need to lose your temper like that."
"Insulting a teacher and threatening a student's parents—is this your idea of upbringing?"
He calmly straightened the lapels of his expensive bespoke suit before speaking in a tone of condescending charity. "My name is Zhou Tianhao. I am the Marketing Director of the Jiang Group."
"I think Teacher Wang understands that having my son learn in an environment filled with violence and vulgarity would cause significant damage to this school's reputation."
The Jiang Group!
The moment those words were uttered, the air in the office seemed to freeze.
Teacher Wang’s eyes lit up, and she straightened her posture immediately. The look she gave Chen Yu shifted from mere disdain to the pity one might show a dead man. In her eyes, someone like Chen Yu was at best a white-collar worker at an ordinary company, someone who had emptied his savings just to get his daughter into this elite private school to rub shoulders with the elite.
But Director Zhou? He was an executive at the Jiang Group! What was the Jiang Group? It was a commercial giant so powerful that if it stamped its foot, the entire Jiang City would tremble. The difference between them was like heaven and earth.
"Director Zhou, please rest assured!" Teacher Wang declared, her voice loud and fawning. "Our school will absolutely not tolerate anyone who disrupts the learning environment or threatens the safety of other children! As for this... this Mr. Chen," she emphasized the word 'Mr.' with heavy sarcasm, "the facts of your daughter hitting someone are clear! Now, you have insulted a teacher and intimidated parents in public! The nature of your actions is egregious. I am officially notifying you on behalf of the school: your daughter, Chen Nian, is expelled! Please take her and leave at once!"
She held her chin high, acting as if she were the embodiment of justice, holding the power of life and death. She could already imagine this man turning pale with despair and begging for mercy on his knees. Doing a favor for Director Zhou while getting rid of a nuisance—it was killing two birds with one stone.
The live-stream chat exploded instantly.
*[Holy crap! A director from the Jiang Group? He’s definitely hit a wall now!]*
*[Niannian’s dad was way too impulsive just now. Cursing is wrong.]*
*[Sigh, society is so realistic. When you have money and power, you can do whatever you want.]*
*[It’s over. The kid is going to be expelled. I feel so bad for Niannian.]*
*[This dad is something else. You have to know who you’re messing with before you act tough. Look at him now, he’s totally screwed himself.]*
However, to everyone's surprise, upon hearing the title "Jiang Group Director," Chen Yu did not show a hint of panic. Instead, he... laughed.
"Heh."
A short, scoffing sound escaped his throat as he leisurely took out his phone.
"An executive of the Jiang Group, is that right?" He lit up the screen, his fingers sliding across it with unhurried precision. "What impressive authority you wield."
"What? Are you planning to make a call to beg for mercy now?" Mrs. Zhou crossed her arms, looking at him with a sneer. "I’m telling you, it’s too late! No matter who comes today, it won’t work! Even if your boss knelt down to beg my husband, our Kai will never be in the same class as your savage daughter!"
Teacher Wang echoed, "Mr. Chen, don’t waste your efforts. Director Zhou’s status is beyond your imagination. For the sake of your daughter, just leave with some dignity."
Chen Yu ignored the two women's clamor entirely. Having found the number he knew by heart, he pressed the call button.
