Chapter 22: Heaven Rewards Those Who Work Hard
Actually, he didn’t quite understand what was going on.
He had received a call from the deputy general manager of Zhongjian Equipment Co., who introduced himself and said they were coming today to discuss business, with a total order amount no less than six million yuan.
The sincerity of the approach was so overwhelming that Yuan Kai felt as if he were the client; the other side practically begged and pleaded, afraid he would refuse.
Not only Feng Feifei was bewildered, but Yuan Kai, with ten years of experience in sales, had never encountered anything like this.
It was baffling—perhaps this was a blessing from heaven!
If tomorrow’s performance was good, it would mean securing a major client for the future, and he would undoubtedly receive high praise from General Manager Feng within the company!
A bright future lay ahead, with unlimited financial prospects!
Overwhelmed with excitement and unable to express it in words, he finally advised the company that, to show how seriously they took the Zhongjian Equipment delegation, all relevant department heads should attend tomorrow’s meeting.
This included pre-sales, research and development, after-sales, business, and even administration, which needed to arrange lunch and thus had to be present.
Feng Feifei, to avoid dampening his enthusiasm and also to show respect for the client, agreed.
This time, Chen Xiao became an outsider, as per Yuan Kai’s deliberate arrangement, with the business department’s cooperation handled entirely by Ma Jing.
When Chen Xiao secured his six-million-yuan order, Ma Jing hadn’t yet joined the company; this time, with the six-million-yuan deal on the table, she could feel the atmosphere!
She happily told Yuan Kai, “Manager, you’re really impressive—your moves are extraordinary!”
Yuan Kai boastfully replied, “It’s nothing. These small orders are insignificant. I’m not like some people who get a little success and immediately act like they’re on top of the world!”
“Remember, luck can only last for a moment; true ability is what endures.”
“Chen Xiao, do you understand what I mean?”
Chen Xiao, playing a game, looked up and said, “Manager, what you said isn’t quite right.”
“What’s wrong?”
“It should be: relying on drugs is temporary, but endurance lasts.”
Damn, who are you implying that about? Yuan Kai felt a bit guilty.
After work, he went home. Since lunch had been late and he wasn’t hungry at all by evening, he didn’t feel like going downstairs to eat.
Remembering there were two steamed buns left from the weekend’s takeout, he planned to microwave them and have some pickled vegetables on the side.
Just as he took out the buns, there was a knock on the door.
“Chen Xiao, can I use your computer for a bit? My laptop blue-screened and is unusable!”
Zhao Xiangjun’s laptop had broken down; she was halfway through preparing a document urgently due.
“Sure, go ahead. Just turn it on; there’s no password.”
Chen Xiao’s desktop was in the corner of the living room on the first floor. Zhao Xiangjun hesitated but came in, just noticing Chen Xiao’s dinner.
“You’re just eating this for dinner?”
“Yeah, not hungry tonight, so I didn’t want to go downstairs.”
Pride must be at stake—low salary, no commission yet, no money?
“I cooked too much, can you help me finish some of it?”
“You cook?”
“Yes, except for mornings when I’m rushed, I mostly cook myself. The food outside isn’t good.”
“Alright then, I’ll take advantage of your chef skills today.”
Without overthinking, he was simply too lazy to move, and having some dishes was definitely better than just pickled vegetables.
Zhao Xiangjun went back to her room and returned with braised pork ribs, steamed sea bass, and some broccoli.
“Dinner’s quite lavish, huh!”
“Eat up, I’m busy working,” Zhao Xiangjun rolled her eyes.
“Oh my, Chen Xiao, is this your den?” Seeing the clutter piled in the corner of the living room.
He had moved in but never tidied up, mainly because many of his old things were no longer needed, so he hadn’t bothered sorting them out.
Her expression of disbelief made Chen Xiao’s face flush; after a moment, he said, “No rush, I’ll sort it out slowly.”
“I’m really speechless!”
She squatted down, “You don’t have any private stuff here, right? I’ll help you tidy up.”
“Nope, do whatever you want.”
“Hey, do you really think I’m your servant? You agree so easily?”
“I’m just not a picky person!”
Well, Zhao Xiangjun was defeated by his casual attitude and accepted it.
She bent down to organize while Chen Xiao ate on the sofa, unable to help but glance repeatedly at her perfect figure.
Her black hair fell to her waist, her slender waist contrasted with voluptuous hips, the curves exaggerated yet just right—making one’s mouth dry with desire.
As if telepathically sensing this, she turned around just in time to catch Chen Xiao’s somewhat distracted and infatuated gaze.
Startled, she quickly got up, fully aware of just how much temptation she held over men.
“Alright, I’ve tidied it for you. Put everything where it belongs,” she said nonchalantly, sitting down at the computer to focus on her work.
*Ding~!* “Zhao Xiangjun has provided dinner for the host at a cost of 50 yuan. Activated the Opposite-Sex Blessing Fund, cashback 4800 yuan!”
Huh? This works too? Zhao Xiangjun, do you realize how well you’re saving money for yourself?
Pulling up the system panel confirmed it:
[Opposite-Sex Blessing Fund: Zhao Xiangjun (Dedication Level: 96)]
[Occupation: Gold Medal Sales Consultant, Sharp Business Men’s Wear]
[Dedication Blessing Fund: 225,600 yuan]
“Zhao Xiangjun, I’ll get my bonus tomorrow and pay you back!”
His bonus would definitely be next month’s, but he feared she might refuse. After spending these days together, he understood her financial situation somewhat.
She worked alone, with a monthly salary plus sales commission just over ten thousand yuan. She had to send 5,000 yuan home monthly and pay 1,800 yuan in rent, leaving little disposable income.
No wonder her clothes were plain. Chen Xiao hadn’t thought much of it before, but learning this, he knew that 2,000 yuan was no small sum for her.
“Oh? Congratulations, you’ve become rich overnight!”
Chen Xiao had told her about the six-million-yuan deal and the tens of thousands in bonuses.
“Tens of thousands isn’t rich. Look at your ambition!” Zhao Xiangjun rolled her eyes. A person with a monthly income of 4,000 yuan had a surprisingly high standard, dismissing tens of thousands.
“When I get my bonus tomorrow, I’ll give you a gift—you can’t refuse. You helped me with clothes, and I barely accepted that!”
Barely accepted? How shameless! Zhao Xiangjun snorted coldly.
“Don’t go spending money recklessly just because you have a bonus. It’s not a fixed salary, and who knows when the next one will come!”
Having finished her work, she felt uncomfortable staying in a man’s room and stood up.
“I’m leaving! If I’m home cooking in the future, I’ll make a portion for you too. Save your money to buy a house and marry a wife!”
The part about feeding him was sincere; the latter was said jokingly.
The next day at work, Chen Xiao didn’t head straight to the office but went to the digital mall. After Zhao Xiangjun’s laptop broke, he realized he needed one too.
He had previously used desktops at both work and home. At the Huawei experience store, he bought two top-spec MateBook X Pro laptops of the same configuration—one in blue for himself and one in dawn pink for Zhao Xiangjun.
It was the first time he bought a gift for her. He discovered the system neatly separated their accounts; money spent on one card could be automatically adjusted. Zhao Xiangjun’s expenses came from his fund, while his own spending drew from his balance.
