Chapter 6: The Complaint

“A procurement project worth three million requires the company to provide a detailed proposal and quotation; another research project worth two million calls for a technical exchange. If it goes well, the other party will grant us two million in research funding for our drone project, but any awards from the research results must be shared with them!”
What? Feifei thought she must be hearing things wrong. Big brother, are you joking with me? You’re a newcomer and you managed to bring back five million in half a day? We only did two million in the first half of the year, mainly because of product issues—and those problems still aren’t resolved! Yet you went out and secured five million.
“No, Chen Xiao, say that again...” Feifei asked apologetically.
Chen Xiao repeated it once more. This time, Feifei listened carefully and, confirming it was the same as before, her eyes sparkled with joy. “Chen Xiao, you really surprised me!”
What? You surprised me? When did that happen? Don’t make me read too much into it!
Chen Xiao quickly shook his head. “No, no!”
Feifei’s eyes brimmed with laughter, crescent-shaped and bright. “Don’t be modest. You know, your performance today almost made my jaw drop!”
Almost? My essence nearly dropped into your jaw? Don’t say nonsense—I didn’t even take my pants off! If it weren’t for the system forcing me to stay on this platform with you, I’d sue you for slander!
Feifei had no idea she was talking past each other. Chen Xiao’s way of thinking was far from ordinary.
“Getting back to business, Chen Xiao, based on your judgment, what are the chances this case will succeed?”
“About eighty to ninety percent. But to avoid unnecessary delays, the proposal and quotation should be delivered to the other party as soon as possible.”
Feifei said, “Yes, but the company is short-staffed right now, so I’ll have to trouble you to handle it...”
“I won’t,” Chen Xiao said matter-of-factly.
Huh? How can you say that? Thinking of the five million order... well, nobody’s perfect!
“Alright then, I’ll assign Yuan Kai. As head of the sales team, successfully handling this will also be his credit. As for the academic exchange, I’ll personally accompany you. I’ll be involved in the technical aspects myself!”
See? Now you’re thinking clearly. That’s a great plan!

Chen Xiao returned to his desk, opened his computer, and sighed—nothing to do, so bored. Maybe a round of LOL?
He wondered if the system would dock his allowance. Spending 8,000 yuan on a game was a hefty price.
“Loving hard work means knowing how to work smart, not just blindly. As a sales person, the most important thing is results. Good results mean you’re carrying gold bricks; no results, you’re just hauling stones from a cesspit!”
Huh, the system replied. So as long as I have results, it’s fine? Alright then, I won’t hold back—I’m on official orders to hustle!
If the system has no objections, no one else’s opinions matter. Chen Xiao thought fiercely.
Near the end of the day, Yuan Kai returned, looking confident. The day’s progress was good; the client finally agreed to dinner!
Business rarely gets done at the office. What’s talked about on the surface is just for show; real deals happen under the table. A client willing to dine out means there’s a chance!
He dropped his briefcase on the desk and saw Chen Xiao staring seriously at his screen, clicking the mouse with one hand and typing with the other.
That fool, you need to be out meeting clients. Hustling in the office won’t get you anywhere, Yuan Kai thought disdainfully.
“Chen Xiao, come with me tonight to entertain the client!” When inviting clients out, you bring a junior—not only to show status but also for service.
“Busy, no time!” Chen Xiao didn’t even look up. Yuan Kai stayed behind in a huff. Their friction was unlikely to ease; better to be open about it than get stabbed in the back.
Damn attitude! Yuan Kai wanted to curse but thought better of it. Chen Xiao ignored him, so he was only making a fool of himself. Besides, he was afraid Chen Xiao might come at him—young and fierce as he was.
A true hero doesn’t suffer losses lightly. I won’t argue with you; I’ll find another way to deal with you. Yuan Kai turned and headed to the General Manager’s office.
Feifei had been thrilled all afternoon. Chen Xiao had given her so many surprises. If this deal went through, the funding problem would be solved. Development of the next-generation product could proceed rapidly, and the company’s future would be bright. From this perspective, calling Chen Xiao the company’s savior was no exaggeration. The significance of this business far exceeded its monetary value.
So when Yuan Kai came in, he found Feifei radiant and triumphant.
“Manager Yuan, you’re back!” she said, motioning him to sit.

Yuan Kai bowed slightly. “General Manager Feng, I just got back too. The day went well; the client agreed to dinner!”
Feifei was taken aback. She wasn’t very pleased with Yuan Kai. If the client agreed to dinner, then fine—go ahead and eat within company-approved limits. She wouldn’t make a fuss over expenses, but reporting this to her seemed unnecessary.
Still in a good mood, she nodded. “Good job. Keep it up!”
“Don’t worry, General Manager Feng. I’ll give it my all. The company’s situation is tough now, but I will hold it up!”
Feifei nodded. Hearing subordinates’ promises was always comforting, though few meant it.
“Also, General Manager Feng, I need to report something to you.”
Feifei gestured for him to continue.
“Our team’s Chen, I don’t think he’s suitable. He’s only in his second month of probation, but I’ve noticed he’s lazy, unwilling to learn, poor at business, and disrespectful to leadership. He does things his own way. I suggest we replace him quickly to avoid hindering the company’s development.”
Feifei’s expression turned serious. “You see it that way?”
Yuan Kai thought, the General Manager really values my opinion. He nodded emphatically. “As a sales person, he lacks basic business skills and doesn’t follow orders.”
“What specific behaviors?”
“First, his business skills—so far, he can’t communicate with clients alone. He lacks professionalism and has poor communication skills. As for disobedience, for example, tonight I asked him to join me to meet a client, and he flat-out said he was busy!”
Feifei looked at him curiously, then said, “Chen Xiao handled two projects alone today, totaling five million. His main focus was following up on the proposal, so he was indeed busy. I was just about to talk to you about this—maybe postpone your client dinner tonight. The proposal and quotation for Chen Xiao’s case need to be completed this evening! As you said, he’s a newcomer and still lacks some professional skills. I’ll need you to push through tonight’s work. After all, if this project succeeds, it’s credit for your department too!”
