Chapter 14: Qin Lang’s Heart
Ji Jing entered the apartment, finding Yu Xiangsi already asleep. He gazed at her peaceful face, recalling Shen Xinian’s words.
“Will you make me fall deeply?” Ji Jing whispered.
Yu Xiangsi was indeed an exception. Before her, he had never met a woman like this, nor had any woman ever affected him so profoundly.
Sensing something, Yu Xiangsi slowly opened her eyes, murmuring, “You’re back.” Even with her eyes closed, she reached out to embrace him. Still groggy from sleep, not fully awake, she was already relying on him.
Ji Jing’s heart instantly melted into tender softness.
“There’s nothing wrong with falling deeply,” he said, a faint smile curving his lips.
No one could predict the future, but at this moment, he liked her. Yes, he liked her and cherished the feeling of being with her.
She made him feel that this woman before him was born for him, every part of her exactly as he desired.
He didn’t know how long his affection would last, but he treasured the feeling. He believed that even if one day they parted ways, he would arrange everything for her, ensuring she never lacked food or shelter.
So, what if he fell deeply? He was strong enough to claim whatever he wanted.
Holding her close, Ji Jing drifted into a peaceful sleep.
Yu Xiangsi soon noticed the change in Ji Jing—he had become more considerate, gentler in their intimacy, but his possessiveness and need for control had also grown.
Except for his work hours, Ji Jing occupied all her free time.
Yet Yu Xiangsi was not blinded by his actions; she understood this was merely the thrill of novelty. Ji Jing was temporarily immersed in their relationship, but it was not yet solid.
That weekend, Yu Xiangsi returned to her former residence.
Since moving in with Ji Jing, she hadn’t given up this apartment—it served as a secret base for her and her close allies.
Among her small circle of avengers, two members remained; today, Tan Kai came by.
Tan Kai was a medical student too. After Qin Lang’s death, when Yu Xiangsi went to Renya Hospital to handle his affairs, she encountered the young man who had attempted suicide—Tan Kai’s brother. Their mother had died following surgery at Renya Hospital; the hospital cited medical malpractice and paid a hefty settlement.
They were a single-parent family; their mother raised two sons under tight financial strain. Renya Hospital used coercion and persuasion to pressure Tan Jie into accepting the compensation.
But later, Tan Jie uncovered the true cause of their mother’s death. Unwilling to see his mother’s murder go unpunished, he fought for justice at Renya Hospital but ultimately took his own life.
Tan Kai, also a student at Z University, held a scholarship from Renya Hospital. It was because of their preferential policies that his mother underwent surgery there—tragically, leading to the family’s downfall.
After his mother and brother died, Tan Kai tried to make a scene at the hospital. It was then that Yu Xiangsi sought him out.
That day, Tan Kai was like an enraged bull, prepared for a do-or-die confrontation. Yet, as he reached the hospital entrance, Yu Xiangsi stopped him.
“Doing this won’t achieve anything,” she said, stepping before him. “Your mother’s malpractice case was settled legally when your brother signed the compensation agreement. If you cause a scene now, people will think you’re greedy. It won’t help; it will only make your mother and brother’s sacrifices meaningless.”
Tan Kai retorted, “I have evidence; I’ve found it...”
Yu Xiangsi cut him off impatiently. “I know. You started investigating Renya Hospital through your school. But you should realize the proof you have won't strike Renya Hospital.”
Frowning, Tan Kai regarded Yu Xiangsi, who was about his age. “Who are you?”
Without expression, she replied, “A victim, just like you.”
She told him she intended to uncover Renya Hospital’s secrets and make those who harmed their families pay.
Later, Tan Kai asked why she chose him. Surely, Renya Hospital had many victims—why pick him?
Yu Xiangsi answered, “Because none of the other victims’ families are as persistent or as clever as you. You must have noticed the hospital’s suspicious cure rates and want to use that as leverage. You’re smart—I need a smart partner.”
Most importantly, he deeply cared for his brother and mother. When Qin Lang was buried, Yu Xiangsi saw Tan Kai weeping at the cemetery, which was part of Renya Hospital’s compensation.
He was intelligent, resourceful, and fiercely determined for revenge. After observing him for a while, Yu Xiangsi decided to recruit him.
Her enemies were too powerful; she couldn’t fight alone and needed allies.
Tan Kai, a medical student at Z University, was the perfect choice.
Snapping back from her thoughts, Yu Xiangsi opened the door and stepped inside.
“Xiangsi, you’re here,” Tan Kai stood up.
Yu Xiangsi entered the living room, and they sat down together.
Tan Kai opened his laptop. “I checked. Five years ago, after my brother and Qin Lang’s accidents, only two patients were discharged: one had a heart transplant, the other a corneal transplant. Here are their records. Take a look.”
Yu Xiangsi’s expression tightened as she took the files. The thought that Qin Lang’s heart now lived in someone else’s body made her eyes redden.
Tan Kai was now interning at Renya Hospital, which was why Yu Xiangsi had chosen him.
Having an insider was essential to understanding the hospital’s internal affairs.
This was a crucial step in their quest for vengeance.
As for investigating the organ transplants from years ago—that was Yu Xiangsi’s personal motive. She knew Qin Lang’s kidney was in Ji Qing’s body, and his heart had been transplanted to someone else. She needed to find out who.
She paused, stunned by the name on the file: Zhou Qi’an. The name was familiar.
Recently, she had been researching autonomous driving technology. One regulation stated that after car companies develop autonomous driving, the automotive industry chamber must conduct evaluations; only those passing could produce vehicles. The chamber wielded significant power, and its current president was Zhou Jin. Zhou Qi’an was his only son.
Suddenly, everything clicked. Five years ago, the Qiao family had already begun their plans.
To ensure the smooth launch of autonomous driving and save Qiao Motors, the Qiaos had been scheming for years.
One life saved the chamber president’s son and the Ji family CEO’s daughter. One life secured Qiao Motors’ future and the marriage of Qiao Zhilin.
No wonder the Qiao family was willing to take such risks.
The stakes were indeed tempting.
Qin Lang was killed by their greed! That was how Qin Lang died!
