Chapter 35: The Security Team’s Supreme Overlord
The Hell Gate organization operated with remarkable efficiency. In just two hours, the sixty individuals Ye Huan requested were ready and, with Lin Tai’s assistance, successfully hired into the Lin Group.
As the captain of the security team, Lin Qingyun immediately summoned the sixty guards to the training room.
"Let me introduce myself. My name is Lin Qingyun, your captain. Furthermore, I am the chairman’s eldest son, the president’s uncle, the former vice president, a member of the board of directors, and a shareholder of the Lin Group."
He paused deliberately, expecting to see expressions of shock from the sixty guards.
He was disappointed.
The sixty guards stood in a perfect formation, straight as arrows, staring ahead with expressionless faces, as if they hadn't heard a word he said.
"Ahem..."
Lin Qingyun coughed in embarrassment and continued, "I am disclosing all my titles to tell you this: as long as you obey me and do exactly as I say, I guarantee that your benefits and compensation will be the best in the entire company."
He waited quietly for the guards to show excitement.
He was disappointed again.
The sixty guards seemed to be suffering from facial paralysis; there was not a hint of emotion on their faces or in their eyes.
"Very well, I will now assign your duties..."
Disappointed, Lin Qingyun quickly assigned tasks to each guard and said, "Assignments are complete. Everyone, head to your respective posts!"
The sixty guards stood rooted to the spot, unmoving.
Lin Qingyun was taken aback. "I told you to head to your posts. Did you not hear me?"
The sixty guards neither answered nor moved.
Lin Qingyun: "???"
"A meeting of the security team, and nobody called me?"
At that moment, Ye Huan strolled over, cracking sunflower seeds.
Swish!
The sixty guards turned their heads in unison, their movements so synchronized they looked like a professional army. Wherever Ye Huan moved, their gazes followed.
Lin Qingyun was shocked to notice the strange look in the guards' eyes as they watched Ye Huan—a mix of intense fervor and reverence.
"Aren't you supposed to be guarding the gate? What are you doing here?" Lin Qingyun scolded. He wanted to show off his authority in front of the sixty men, to let them know he was second only to the top in the security department.
"Everyone, go back to what you were doing," Ye Huan said, ignoring Lin Qingyun and spitting out a seed shell.
"Yes!" the sixty guards replied in unison before quickly clearing the training room.
Lin Qingyun was stunned. He had talked for a long time without a single response, but one word from Ye Huan and they had obeyed instantly. Had he been sidelined by Ye Huan?
"You pig-slaughterer, who gave you the authority to command all the security guards?" Lin Qingyun asked, glaring at Ye Huan.
"Captain Lin, from today on, just consider this a nominal post. Collect your monthly salary and don't worry about anything else. Of course, you couldn't manage anything anyway, since nobody listens to you."
Ye Huan left him with those words, then continued cracking seeds and sauntered away with a swagger.
Lin Qingyun was furious. Being demoted to the security department was already a humiliating blow to his status. To find that his power had been completely usurped by a mere guard who started today was an insult upon an insult. Yet, for all his rage, he found himself completely helpless against Ye Huan, which only made it more infuriating.
After leaving the training room, Ye Huan wandered up to the floor housing the president’s office. He hesitated for a moment, wondering if he should go inside to stir up some trouble. Just then, the secretary stepped out of the president’s office.
Ye Huan’s eyes lit up. "Yo, not bad at all!" He patted the secretary on the hip as he spoke.
"What do you think you're doing?" the secretary gasped, flushed with shame and anger.
"There was a mosquito on your hip. I killed it for you. No need to thank me; helping those in need is my life motto," Ye Huan said with a straight face.
The secretary was defeated by Ye Huan’s shamelessness. She had never seen someone act like a hooligan with such self-righteousness. She was about to explode when Lin Xi stepped out of the office. She paused upon seeing Ye Huan and asked with a playful tone, "What’s this? Did my uncle give you a hard time on your first day, so you came here to complain to me?"
The secretary was secretly shocked. She had never seen the president use such an expression or tone with anyone in the company. She figured this guard’s identity must be extraordinary; otherwise, he wouldn't dare come to this floor, nor would he be worthy of such a reaction from the president.
"Lin Qingyun is just a security captain. How could he dare give me, the true master of the security team, a hard time?" Ye Huan said with a look of disdain.
Lin Xi didn't believe his nonsense. She suddenly noticed the bag of sunflower seeds in his left hand, another bag filled with shells, and a seed he was holding in his right hand. She realized he wasn't lying; something had clearly happened in the security department that she was unaware of, preventing Lin Qingyun from giving him trouble.
This annoyed her. She scolded him, "A little guard like you should be at your post. What are you doing here?"
"My job is to patrol everywhere!" Ye Huan lied. After all, he was the boss of the security team now; he could assign himself whatever duties he liked.
"Would my uncle really let you have such an easy job?" Lin Xi questioned.
"I assigned it to myself," Ye Huan shrugged.
Lin Xi was furious. "Get back to your post immediately."
"My post is patrolling!" Ye Huan retorted.
The secretary nearby was stunned. A lowly guard dared to argue with the president and seemed to have no respect for the former vice president, Lin Qingyun. Who on earth was this guy? Could he be the son of some super-tycoon here at the Lin Group to gild his resume?
"Lin Tai, come out here!"
At that moment, a roar echoed through the hall.
Ye Huan, Lin Xi (who was about to tear into Ye Huan), and the secretary all looked toward the source of the sound. A middle-aged man was marching toward them in a rage.
"Uncle Su?" Lin Xi recognized him instantly. She asked, "Uncle Su, please calm down. This is the company. Let’s talk properly. Please don't shout; it will ruin your image."
In truth, she had already guessed why Su Danchen was there—it was surely because Ye Huan had slapped Su Lei last night and forced him to kneel and apologize in public. She just couldn't fathom why Su Danchen would feel the need to storm into the Lin Group and scream for her grandfather over such a trivial matter.
Ye Huan deduced Su Danchen's identity from how Lin Xi addressed him and immediately understood why he was there and why he was so angry.
"I cannot be calm!" Su Danchen glared at Lin Xi and continued shouting, "Lin Tai, get out here!"
Lin Xi was annoyed and was about to stop him again when Lin Tai walked out of his office. He looked at Su Danchen and asked, "Nephew Su, what has happened to make you this angry?"
It wasn't just Lin Tai; Lin Canglan, who was on the same floor, and others from nearby offices had all heard the shouting and emerged to see what was going on.
"What has happened? You have the nerve to ask me what happened? Don't you know?" Su Danchen demanded furiously.
Lin Tai walked over, looking truly puzzled. "I really don't know what happened."
Just then, Lin Canglan walked over. "Brother Su, what is the matter?" As he spoke, he cast a look of disgust toward Ye Huan.
"What is the matter? Ask the good husband of Lin Xi what on earth has happened!" Su Danchen roared.
