Volume One, Chapter 12: Seeing Daddy Again
Page 1/3
Lu Mingxi chuckled brightly, showing no hint of guilt. “I’m grown up now, Mommy. Transformers aren’t real—I don’t want to be a Transformer. Mommy, I want to be a child model. Mommy, Mommy…”
Lu Xiaoman’s head ached.
She was wary of Lu Mingxi causing trouble, but even more so when he acted coquettishly toward her. It seemed that whenever her son shamelessly showered her with affection, calling “Mommy, Mommy,” she had no way to resist.
Of course, this only applied to things that didn’t cross her principles or bottom line; in those cases, she would compromise.
She felt sorry that her son had grown up without a father’s love and wanted to make up for it in every possible way. Fortunately, Lu Mingxi hadn’t developed a spoiled personality; instead, he was quite endearing.
Well, her son just wanted to try being a child model for a different experience. One more new adventure wouldn’t hurt him.
“Xiao Xi, Mommy can agree to your request…”
“Yay!” Lu Mingxi jumped up happily.
“But I have one condition.”
“I’ll agree to a hundred conditions, Mommy!” Lu Mingxi puffed out his little chest confidently.
Lu Xiaoman laughed. “When we’re there, no running around. You have to stay with Mommy, no mischief, and be obedient.”
“No problem, Madam.”
Lu Mingxi promptly gave a perfect salute.
The LR Group.
Its main office tower was majestic, soaring over 130 stories, an absolute landmark on the city skyline.
The modern architectural style combined with vast glass curtain walls shimmered brilliantly under the sunlight.
When Lu Xiaoman and Lu Mingxi arrived at the first-floor lobby, someone came to greet them.
As the elevator slowly ascended, an inexplicable tension crept into her heart.
This was the group’s headquarters—would she meet Shang Linyuan today?
And what was the meaning behind those messages he sent last night? What was his intention?
Thinking back to last night’s texts, an image suddenly appeared in her mind: a man’s honey-toned, firm abs, seemingly glistening with droplets of water slowly sliding down, disappearing…
Stop!
What nonsense was she daydreaming about?
She hadn’t thought like this in over twenty years. What was wrong with her today?
“Mommy, don’t be nervous,” Lu Mingxi suddenly shook her hand.
His hand was held by hers, and upon hearing this, Lu Xiaoman looked down at her son. “I’m not nervous.”
“Mommy’s lying. Your palms are sweating. My best friend Da Pang in kindergarten was so nervous when he went on stage that both his hands were sweaty and even rubbed against my clothes. So gross.”
Lu Xiaoman: …
Why did she have such a chatterbox for a son?
There were LR employees standing nearby—what nonsense was he spouting?

Realizing there were others around and that Mommy might be embarrassed, Chatterbox Lu Mingxi pressed close to Lu Xiaoman’s leg and lowered his voice.
“Mommy, I’ll handle them. You just don’t say anything.”
Lu Xiaoman was both amused and exasperated.
To end the topic, she hastily replied, “Okay, I’m not nervous.”
The elevator stopped at the 129th floor, and the doors opened.
Lu Xiaoman held her son’s hand and followed the LR staff forward. She was extremely grateful for her 5.3 vision—just a quick glance allowed her to spot anyone she didn’t want to see.
They were led to a reception room, sipping tea and drinks while waiting for Director Zhang from LR’s Marketing Department to come for the meeting.
Lu Mingxi had no idea this was Shang Linyuan’s company. After a brief curious look around, he lost interest.
Although the decor was high-end and luxurious, everyone walked silently, making no noise at all. It was so quiet it felt like no one was there.
Not fun at all.
“Mommy, I suddenly don’t want to be a child model anymore.”
Lu Xiaoman was surprised by her son’s sudden retreat—this wasn’t his usual character.
“Giving up on your dream?” she asked teasingly.
Lu Mingxi lowered his head and said nothing.
He had called being a child model a dream, but it was a lie.
He just thought that child models appeared often in public, so many people would recognize him. If someone recognized him as their son, maybe his dad would show up on his own.
But he also worried—if he became too famous, what if many “dads” came to claim him falsely?
Mommy would surely be so annoyed.
Ah, such a dilemma.
Just then, someone appeared at the reception room door.
“Are you Ms. Lu?”
The visitor wore gold-rimmed glasses, was in his early thirties, dressed in a sharp gray suit, and looked refined.
Lu Xiaoman stood. “I’m Lu Xiaoman.”
Lu Mingxi also stood and gave a polite smile to the visitor.
“Hello, little one. What’s your name?”
“My name is Lu Mingxi. Uncle, who are you?”
The visitor introduced himself. “I’m Zhang Wenbin, in charge of Marketing. I called you and your son here today because…”
Before he could finish, Lu Mingxi suddenly shouted excitedly.
“Daddy… Uncle!”
Then he ran toward the door.
Lu Xiaoman tried to pull her son back but couldn’t.
There was no stopping him—Lu Mingxi had been very athletic since he was little.

Zhang Wenbin was initially surprised, but when he saw Lu Mingxi affectionately hugging a man’s leg by the door—
His surprise turned into shock!
This little boy was clutching the leg of the CEO and Big Boss!
If he had heard correctly, the boy just called the CEO “Daddy”?
This was bad, very bad.
Lu Xiaoman was also shocked.
Fate had brought them face to face when she least wanted it.
Lu Mingxi was overjoyed.
He hugged Shang Linyuan’s leg, shook it, and blinked his big watery eyes with a sweet smile.
“Daddy… Uncle, why are you here? Are you here to see me?”
Although the paternity test said Shang Linyuan wasn’t his dad, he simply felt that the man before him was especially familiar and pleasant to look at—much more agreeable than those men who had pursued Mommy and wanted to be his dad before.
Shang Linyuan was somewhat surprised to see Lu Mingxi and instinctively looked in the direction the boy came from.
When he saw Lu Xiaoman frozen in the reception room, a flicker of meaning passed through his eyes.
Lu Xiaoman had indeed come looking for him—with her son!
“Let’s go.”
Shang Linyuan naturally extended his hand to Lu Mingxi.
The little guy understood instantly and happily took the large hand before him.
“Uncle, where are we going?” he asked curiously.
“To my office,” Shang Linyuan replied, taking careful steps.
Considering Lu Mingxi’s short legs, he didn’t take large strides.
Lu Mingxi bounced along happily, chatting and laughing with Shang Linyuan.
Left behind were the stunned onlookers.
Su Cheng, seeing the two leave, waved the senior staff off to return to their work.
They had originally come to tour the latest project technology but had their plans disrupted by a little boy.
Yet since the CEO hadn’t said anything, what complaints could they have?
“Wait, Mr. Su.”
As Su Cheng was about to leave, a clear, elegant female voice called after him.
Su Cheng had actually noticed Lu Xiaoman earlier but, preferring to avoid trouble, hadn’t spoken without the CEO’s instruction.
“Ms. Lu, we meet again.”
