In another month or so, the official forum would open a dedicated fishing section for the old fishermen of the game to exchange tips and experiences. In his previous life, Lu Kuan used to enjoy browsing there when he had nothing else to do.

Pets, high-level equipment, rare materials, exotic mounts, rare recipes for every trade—within the world of the old fishermen, there was nothing you couldn’t fish up, only things you hadn’t thought to try for.

Hearing Lu Kuan’s words, Dai Guang’s eyes sparkled with stars, already imagining the wonderful life that awaited: fishing up divine artifacts, precious gems, or even a whole family of mermaids…

Seeing Dai Guang’s dazed expression, Lu Kuan could only shake his head with a helpless smile. He turned his attention back to fishing for crabs. Although being a fisherman was a promising profession, the hardships and dangers it entailed were no less than slaying bosses or completing quests.

A slow, deliberate sound of footsteps rustled behind him. Lu Kuan noticed it from a distance, calmly placing his hunting bow at hand, a mocking smile playing at the corners of his mouth.

It was the same two young men from earlier. They strolled over to Lu Kuan and Dai Guang, pretending to be just passing by, but their eyes never left the wooden box beside Lu Kuan, the box filled with prepared bait.

Dai Guang glared at them coldly, his expression unfriendly. However, since Lu Kuan said nothing, Dai Guang held his tongue.

“Hey, your bait works pretty well, huh?” A dwarven warrior strolled up and grinned cheekily at Lu Kuan.

Lu Kuan gripped his fishing rod with one hand, glancing at the other. “What do you want?”

The dwarf narrowed his eyes, chuckled, and said, “Of course I want something. Since you’ve got such good bait, why not share it with everyone? It’s not good to keep it all to yourself.”

“Sure,” Lu Kuan replied without hesitation, catching the dwarf off guard. The two men’s faces lit up, but their expressions quickly darkened at Lu Kuan’s next words.

“One serving, five gold coins. Guaranteed quality and quantity. If you can’t catch anything, I’ll refund you in full,” Lu Kuan said evenly.

“Are you out of your mind? That little bit of bait costs more than green gear!” the dwarf cursed, glaring at Lu Kuan.

Lu Kuan chuckled, looking at him. “It’s my product—I set the price however I like. Buy if you want, otherwise get lost.”

“Oh, acting tough, are you?” The dwarf suddenly drew the heavy hammer from his waist, raising it to strike Lu Kuan on the head. “Let’s see if you’ve grown tired of living...”

As the dwarf raised his hammer, a system prompt flashed in Lu Kuan’s vision: “Player ‘BoredToDeath’ has initiated an attack against you. For the next two hours, any counterattack will not increase your PK value.”

This was exactly what Lu Kuan had been waiting for.

Before the hammer could connect, Lu Kuan rolled swiftly to the side, drawing his bow and firing!

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

Lu Kuan’s movements were so fast that the two never expected it. By the time they reacted, the dwarf had already taken three arrows, his health halved in an instant.

Dai Guang’s reaction was not slow either. As soon as Lu Kuan moved, he instinctively stepped back and cast Blessing on both of them.

Blessing increased an ally’s accuracy and spell resistance—a staple support spell in both PK and monster hunting.

“Damn it! Get him!” the two shouted, enraged by Lu Kuan’s decisive counterattack. But to reach him, they had to get past Dai Guang, who blocked their path. That brief delay was all Lu Kuan needed—his ring’s special effect had already triggered!

A flurry of dazzling damage numbers appeared. The two, with mediocre gear and no advanced quests completed, couldn’t withstand Lu Kuan’s rapid close-range shots. Their screams filled the air.

“Ah!”

“Ow!”

The pair ran around in panic, clutching their heads, and in their desperation, dove into the water. Two dull splashes echoed, and the river quickly reddened with their blood.

Moments later, their figures resurfaced downstream, but neither moved again.

From afar, their teammates noticed the attack and hurried over. But before they’d gone more than a few steps, they saw the two avatars in the party list turn gray, and soon after, the corpses floated down the river.

“What the hell happened?” someone hesitated, stopping in their tracks.

They weren’t far away, yet no one had seen what happened. The remaining seven or eight exchanged glances, uncertainty in their eyes. Was the other side really that strong?

Just then, a curse sounded in the team channel—the two who’d just died had already revived in town.

“Damn it, that guy dared to fight back? I’m calling for backup right now! You all stay put and don’t let those two bastards get away!” the dwarf’s furious voice echoed.

Someone else tried to calm things: “Um, maybe we should drop it. They’re obviously veterans, and we’re just here to relax. Besides, they don’t seem interested in coming over...”

“Shut up! I’m calling my cousin—he’s a higher-up in Dark Paradise. I’ll see them both sent back to level zero today!”

The rest fell silent. The dwarf was always the tough guy, and he’d been the one who suggested the outing to Banyan Grasslands. No one expected things to turn out this way.

On Lu Kuan’s side, he had already stowed his weapons and resumed fishing at the riverbank as if nothing had happened.

Dai Guang, however, was fuming. He glared back at the crowd and snapped, “Who do they think they are, emperors? Idiots!”

“Let it go,” Lu Kuan said with a laugh, seeing Dai Guang’s face flushed with anger. “There’s no law in these games—people’s flaws get magnified. You’ll get used to it after seeing enough of this.”

Dai Guang grumbled for a while, then glanced at the other side, worried. “Lu Kuan, do you think they’re waiting for reinforcements?”

“Got one!” Lu Kuan flicked his rod, reeling in a small Slickshell Crab. Seeing there was no Shadow Grass, he shook his head in mild disappointment. “Don’t worry. If they do bring in backup, I’ve got ways to deal with them. There aren’t many monsters here, but the dangers under the water are plenty.”

Dai Guang’s eyes gleamed: “Ambushes? That’s my favorite, ha!”

Over the next half hour, Lu Kuan and Dai Guang changed spots several times. The river had many fishing points—areas dense with aquatic creatures. In his previous life, some had meticulously mapped them out, but it had been too long, and Lu Kuan’s memory was fuzzy.

Even so, their haul was impressive—plenty of fish, shrimp, and crabs, and they even found six stalks of Shadow Grass, including one of quality 7 and one of quality 9, which left Lu Kuan quite satisfied.
