Chapter 134: The Ordinary Mercenary, Zuo Xiaoluo
“Hmph!” The girl turned her head away, ignoring Fiona.
“You don’t have to say it—I could guess just by looking around and seeing your outfit. You must be the fastest runner among the local bandit groups, Susie Robert!” Fiona said.
“You?!” The girl was startled and immediately hid behind Luoyong, scanning the surroundings cautiously, ready to run at any moment. “You must be mistaken. My name is Momo. I’m a trainee mercenary, definitely not a bandit!”
“Oh, really?” Fiona glanced at Luoyong and asked, “Sir, do you know her? Probably not. A mercenary wouldn’t hang out with bandits, especially not—”
Fiona stared closely at Luoyong for a while before continuing, “A forbidden technique guardian! Oh my, they really exist! It’s the first time I’ve ever seen one in my life!”
“You say you’ve lived that long... but you don’t look old at all!” Susie peeked out from behind Luoyong, narrowing her eyes as she scrutinized certain parts of the other’s body.
“Hmph! I’m not here for you this time. Consider yourself lucky!” Fiona waved her hand, and with a swift slash, she cut down dozens of monsters rushing forward. “Mercenary, let’s team up. I’m quite capable. And don’t worry about sharing any treasures—just sell me one... uh...” Fiona glanced at the Snake Princess and the Peerless Sword Maiden, hesitating about whom to choose.
Then, blushing, she looked at Luoyong, embarrassed, and said, “I’ll perform well and try to kill as many monsters as possible... So, could you maybe sell me two of those magic energy war puppets? No, make that two units?”
“I can fight monsters on my own,” Luoyong said emotionlessly.
“Hey! Your little scheme failed, huh? Leave quickly; you’re not welcome here!” Susie sneered and made a mocking face at her.
“Sir, I—I’m a Holy Sword Knight. I’m not like ordinary paladins. I have fighting power! If you don’t believe me, watch!” Fiona seemed anxious and swung her sword twice more, unleashing two rapid cross-shaped slashes that almost simultaneously cut down a large number of monsters within her range.
And she still seemed to have some strength left.
Her combat power must be around level 15. So young, yet how she achieved that, no one knew.
Thinking this, Luoyong became even more determined to refuse.
Moreover, the monsters pouring from the passage had been mostly cut down by her all at once, and it seemed the flow behind was about to stop.
Seeing this, Luoyong’s face darkened.
“I’m used to fighting alone!”
Luoyong’s voice was low but calm, though his expression showed some annoyance that left people puzzled.
“Uh...” Fiona hesitated, unsure what she had done wrong to upset him, feeling somewhat lost.
Yet leaving just like that felt unsatisfying.
Seeing the mercenary pull out a tactical scroll again, she frowned. Didn’t he know how precious those scrolls were?
Moments later, the monsters at both ends of the passage visibly thinned as they were eliminated one by one.
“Phew!” Susie exhaled deeply and, without waiting for anyone to say anything, wobbled away.
“Hmph! If it weren’t for the mission...” Fiona clenched her fists and muttered resentfully, then silently followed Luoyong, planning to grind alongside him.
If she could get one of those magic energy war puppets, it would help her future adventures immensely.
With no monsters around, Luoyong continued forward down the passage.
The Peerless Sword Maiden marched steadily beside him, the group moving as one.
The Snake Princess wandered around him erratically, sometimes near, sometimes far.
“So many... where did you get all these?” Fiona muttered softly behind Luoyong, pondering how she could trade for such magic energy war puppets.
“Ah!”
Not long after they advanced, a sharp scream rang out, followed by a slight tremor on the ground and roaring as countless monsters surged forward once again.
“What a divine assist!” Luoyong muttered and stopped, while the little warrior beside him was about to charge.
“If you want to follow me, don’t attack,” Luoyong said calmly.
“Uh...” Fiona was taken aback, thinking, Who wants to follow you?
But then she reconsidered. Spending more time with him might mean she could get those magic energy war puppets.
Maybe even find out where to get more for herself...
With that thought, she stopped her sword swing and quietly stepped back.
Meanwhile, the girl named Susie unexpectedly ran back from the front.
Her movement was strange.
She quickly passed by the two and dashed toward the rear, soon disappearing from sight.
Then...
After a scream, she ran back again.
Just like before, the passage’s front and rear were once again blocked by a massive horde of monsters.
Susie slipped behind Luoyong, looking frustrated.
She was clutching something tightly in her arms, but no one knew what it was.
“Run! Why aren’t you running?” Fiona leaned in, squinting at her.
“Hmph!” Susie turned away, ignoring her. Seeing the many monsters approaching and Luoyong’s magic energy war puppets only blocking one direction, she suddenly realized something.
“You two alone can’t hold off so many monsters. Hmph, you won’t be able to run then!”
“Tch, you’re such a good runner, but you still can’t run!” Fiona waved her sword. “I don’t need to run. I can fight my way out!”
“You—” Susie felt stifled, as if she had lost again in their rivalry.
“Don’t attack,” Luoyong’s voice suddenly rang out. A tactical scroll was already activated.
“But...” Fiona looked at another tactical scroll being used so easily, feeling a pang of regret. “That’s such a waste! Why don’t you let me join the fight? I can kill tons of monsters too! If not, I can trade with you!”
Fiona was offering to exchange her combat power for Luoyong’s tactical scrolls.
“That stuff is cheap at the High Grid Camp,” Luoyong took the chance to advertise his store.
“Oh? The new general store? I heard their prices are cheaper than others, though I’m not sure if it’s true...” Susie said.
“Even if so, that’s for later. For now—” Fiona raised her sword, seeming to have endless strength and magic.
“I said I don’t need help. Just don’t,” Luoyong said emotionlessly. At a time like this, having someone fight for kills was ridiculous.
“Sigh!”
Luoyong sighed, checking the time. Gatling Big Sister should have finished recharging.
In fact, due to the number and tactics, these Gatling Big Sisters had fought nearly a whole day but still retained some combat power.
It was just that the Holy Light Field couldn’t hold much longer; the consumption was too high. That’s why Luoyong had to stop farming monsters in the demon’s secret realm.
Swish!
A heroic figure appeared in the dungeon passage, setting up the Gatling gun.
Rat-a-tat-tat...
The gunfire rang out, and both Fiona and Susie widened their eyes, ceasing their quarrel.
“What’s this now?”
“She single-handedly blocked all the monsters...”
The spinning barrel sprayed a line of fire, holding back the monsters several yards away. None could breach the line.
“Why didn’t she summon this magic energy war puppet from the start?” Susie muttered.
“Yeah, if it had been out earlier, some people wouldn’t have dared to run around!” Fiona said.
“...”
Susie’s breath caught. Though unwilling to admit it, she knew she wouldn’t dare run recklessly against such a war puppet.
“I want this one! I want this one!” Fiona’s eyes sparkled as if she had made up her mind to follow Luoyong.
Rat-a-tat-tat!
After a while, the spinning barrel slowed and entered recharge mode.
“Ah! It’s over!” Susie exclaimed.
“Magic power used up?” Fiona sighed lightly but looked eager to take the stage and show Luoyong her fighting prowess.
Swish, swish!
Luoyong didn’t give her a chance and summoned two Gatling Big Sisters at once.
Roar!
A furious roar echoed far away, shaking the entire dungeon.
Countless monsters charged madly, nearly reaching close range!
The lead monster opened its mouth and spat a flame, lighting up the dim passage.
The distance between the two sides was less than fifty meters...
Click, click, click!
The Gatling gun began to spin.
Bluish magic energy burst forth, and the exhilarating sound rang out again.
Rat-a-tat-tat...
Two lines of fire intertwined, completely blocking the monsters coming from that direction.
The distance quickly stretched from fifty meters to sixty, seventy...
All the way to over a hundred meters, reaching the corner of the passage.
“What kind of divine tool is this?” Susie shouted.
“Oh ho ho! I want this! I want this!” Fiona’s eyes shone with stars.
Moments later, monsters in both directions were wiped out.
Luoyong retracted all the magic energy war puppets and continued forward.
“Sir! Sir! Where did you get these magic energy devices?” Susie asked.
“Sir, just who are you, and how do you have so many...” Fiona questioned.
“I’m just an ordinary mercenary,” Luoyong said lightly.
