Chapter 148: The Divine Descendant

Close-Combat Pay-to-Win Mage The Dao gives rise to the meow. 3648 words 2026-03-30 03:57:01

It was as if time and space had suddenly reversed.

Yet, it had not truly reversed, so it was only a feeling.

Luo Yong’s jaw dropped and his eyes widened as he stared ahead—

What on earth did he see?

The scene before him was even more astonishing than seeing the Scarlet Arachne’s shapely, fair legs!

A young man rose from a pool of blood, his entire body glowing, while his mangled limbs rapidly reassembled themselves.

Severed limbs reconnected, broken bones regenerated.

Even though his vital energy was still somewhat depleted, his life was no longer in danger!

He had clearly already died, yet now he was miraculously resurrected!

How could Luo Yong not be amazed?

"Immortals above! Please accept Pang Ding’s kowtow!"

Right at that moment, a spherical figure suddenly darted out from who knows where. Pang Ding appeared beside Gayle and knelt down with a complete lack of dignity.

However, because his legs were far too short, the kneeling wasn't very noticeable; it merely looked as though his stature had dropped a bit lower than usual.

"Have mercy upon me, I beg of you, and save my beloved Belinda..."

"No... There is no need for this."

Gayle waved a hand, looking at Pang Ding with a somewhat peculiar expression. "The root cause of all this happening lies with you. Although everything has a fixed number and what is meant to happen will eventually occur, bringing about such severe consequences purely for your own selfish desires is truly unacceptable!"

"Please forgive me, Immortal!"

Pang Ding shouted at the top of his lungs, kowtowing with utmost piety as he chanted, "As long as you can resurrect Belinda, I am willing to pay any price! Even if I must descend into the deepest abyss of hell, I shall have no regrets!"

"Sigh... Speaking of paying a price, you are merely infatuated, only temporarily blinded by emotion..." Gayle waved a listless hand and said, "Everything has its cause and effect, and destiny is predetermined in the dark. For them to suffer through this ordeal of dying and coming back to life is also a trial destined by fate."

"Karma has brought us together, and life and death operate in a cycle. I do not blame you, nor can I help you..."

At this point, Gayle cast an apologetic look toward Luo Yong, as if anticipating what he was about to say.

"As for your matter, I am utterly powerless to help. Everything depends solely upon yourself. If you act quickly, perhaps there is still a glimmer of hope..."

"..."

Hearing these words, Luo Yong halted his forward steps.

Originally, he had also intended to go over and pay his respects, but he had been beaten to the punch by that damned fat man Pang Ding, making him half a step too late.

"All of this... should come to an end now..." Gayle said faintly.

"Even the dead can be resurrected? Gayle, I truly underestimated you!" Umbrella said with a solemn expression. Yet, seeing her opponent's weak state, she couldn't help bursting into laughter, arrogance flashing across her face.

"However, you are about to die now, while my divine power is still recovering! The feeling of weakness is fading... I am even more powerful than before!"

"Looks like I'll have to unleash another round of concentrated fire!" Luo Yong commanded his combat squads, once again locking their sights on Umbrella.

"It's useless."

Dominic Alex said emotionlessly, gently laying down the woman in his arms, brushing back her long hair, and leaving a tender kiss upon her forehead.

"Umbrella is a descendant of the divine race. Although countless eras have passed and her bloodline power is thin, once the power hidden deep within her bloodline is awakened, it is simply not something you mortals can kill!"

Dominic Alex slowly stood up and hoisted his massive bow once more.

"Descendant of the divine race? Mortals?" Luo Yong narrowed his eyes, staring at Umbrella in the distance, and thought to himself: No matter how formidable she is, could she possibly surpass the Scarlet Arachne Adela?

Although he hadn't actually defeated Adela, he had at least witnessed her power, and the high-tier magic scrolls stored in his spatial inventory could still inflict a certain... tiny bit of damage on her!

"It's useless."

Umbrella’s voice drifted over from afar. She seemed rather fond of this sense of standing above everyone else, floating up once again into mid-air to look down upon the people below.

Those who had just been resurrected, though still somewhat unclear about what had transpired, had already distanced themselves from the battlefield, retreating to a relatively safe area.

Some even scrambled into the defensive formations of the magitech puppet legion.

"Gayle is already dead. What other methods do you have left to deal with me?" Umbrella looked down at Gayle lying flat on the ground, an unconcealed smile spreading across her face. "I can sense it—all four artifacts are inside her body, and she sealed them away using all of her divine power!"

"Sages! Predecessors! Fellow compatriots of the divine race! The glory of the past shall be restored by me, Umbrella!"

With a ferocious expression, exaggerated gestures, and an arrogant tone, she spoke entirely to herself, completely ignoring the mortals standing on the ground.

Including Dominic Alex, who had already trained his bow and arrow squarely upon her.

BOOM!!!

Luo Yong’s magitech puppets unleashed a synchronized barrage. Various wildly violent energy impacts slammed into Umbrella’s body, blasting her straight into a human-shaped hole carved into the wall of the grand hall.

Perhaps even she had not expected that things would reach this point and she would still end up being knocked into a wall.

However, when all the blinding light dispersed and the unleashed energies receded like a tidal wave, Umbrella walked out from the human-shaped cavity once again.

Not a single scratch marred her body.

"The power of mortals amounts to no more than this," she murmured faintly, casting an emotionless gaze toward Luo Yong.

Meanwhile, Pang Ding had already flashed to Luo Yong’s side, clutching a scroll and ready to make a run for it at a moment's notice.

SWISH!

A piercing arrow-beam, as if intending to puncture everything in existence, pierced through Umbrella’s body just as she lunged toward Gayle.

Even the divine, demon-like protective halo surrounding her body failed to block this single arrow.

"Ugh—"

Umbrella gasped in shock, finding it somewhat hard to believe.

She turned her head to look at Dominic Alex, only to see blood dripping from his fingertips as well.

Though the blood appeared red, a closer inspection revealed faint traces of gold mixed within it.

"Legend has it... that the Alex clan are descendants of divine blood. It seems to be true..." Umbrella muttered as she slowly drifted backward, apparently intending to retreat and remove herself from this battle.

"Don't leave, Umbrella. Everything must end here!" Dominic Alex sighed softly, drawing his bow continuously. Every single feathered arrow was first stained with his own fresh blood!

WHOOSH, WHOOSH, WHOOSH!

Three arrows were loosed in rapid succession, not appearing particularly fast in flight, yet carrying an aura capable of destroying heaven and earth.

"Damn it!"

Umbrella shrieked, her figure flickering as she tried desperately to dodge. To her horror, however, the arrows seemed imbued with a spiritual awareness, clinging to her like a shadow.

"These arrows are tainted with divine blood. They will not stop until they pierce their target!"

Dominic Alex said coldly.

CRACK!

While dodging, Umbrella condensed a sheet of blue crystal before her, attempting to use her mastery-type spells to deflect and alter the trajectory of the three arrows.

Unexpectedly, the first arrow struck like lightning; unable to evade it in time, the blue crystal shield materialized in front of her was shattered into pieces.

The residual divine power remaining on the arrow drove it relentlessly toward her chest!

THUD!

"Dominic Alex, how truly ruthless of you!" Umbrella screamed as she plummeted from the sky, crashing heavily onto the ground. Aside from her pierced chest, a vast torrent of fresh blood gushed from her mouth.

As her bloodline power had awakened, her blood had once again reverted to a bright crimson hue.

THUD! THUD!

The two arrows that followed closely behind drove deeply into her body as well!

At that instant, the halo surrounding Umbrella dissipated, stripping away any remaining sacred radiance.

The blood gushing from her wounds rapidly stained her garments crimson.

"The blood of the divine race is red?"

Witnessing this scene, Luo Yong felt somewhat bewildered. What the hell difference was there between them and ordinary humans?

"Should we go over and finish her off?" Pang Ding muttered from the side, gritting his teeth as a fresh wave of grief and resentment washed over him!

Why could everyone else be resurrected and granted another chance at life, while his beloved Belinda could not be saved?

What descendant of divine blood? What inheritor of the gods?

At this moment, all of Pang Ding's fury and hatred morphed into a potent intent to kill.

"It's over..."

Dominic Alex discarded his longbow, picked up a blood-stained arrow, and walked slowly toward Umbrella.

Pang Ding had already positioned himself early on, his rapier drawn from its scabbard, ready at any moment to rush in and deliver a couple of strikes.

"Do you have any last words?"

Standing beside Umbrella, Dominic Alex raised the arrow high in his hand.

"Do... minic... I once loved you so deeply..." Tears streamed from Umbrella’s eyes as she struggled to raise a single hand, as if trying desperately to grasp at something. "You are such a fool."

"Huh?"

Dominic Alex frowned, sensing that something was amiss.

Originally, he had intended to acknowledge that his intelligence indeed left much to be desired, and to utter a parting line right before her death: "Yes, I truly am a fool!"

Yet—

That hand, the hand already stained thoroughly with blood, thrust outward so abruptly and with such terrifying precision that it clamped tightly around his throat!

"Ugh—"
Dominic Alex’s body stiffened. He struggled fiercely, a fierce glint flashing in his eyes as he forcefully drove the arrow downward!

Alas, he was a fraction of a second too late. When the tip of the arrow was merely an inch away from Umbrella's body, it halted forever.

This battle, which should have concluded, shifted once more, reversing its outcome.

Blue crystals erupted from Dominic Alex's eyes and mouth, filling his upper body and sealing him completely.

His life ended at that very moment, departing this world forever.

"It's finally over... Haha..."

Umbrella struggled to her feet. Although she had used a ruse to kill Dominic Alex, her own condition was abyssal; she was drenched in blood, with several arrow shafts nearly a meter long still protruding from her body.

Yet, she paid it no mind, sweeping an emotionless gaze across everyone in the grand hall before walking steadily toward Gayle.
