Chapter 100: The Beginning of the Battle with Light
It is said that the Kui Ba clan possesses extraordinary combat strength and ranks first among the three great evils. Today, I shall see their power for myself.
This underground space somewhat resembles an ancient town. Although it bustles with lights and wine, caves are scattered everywhere among sheer cliffs spiraling upward, like a faded landscape painting from ancient times.
I did not assume a combat stance. Instead, I infused my powers throughout my body, hoping to test whether the Kui Ba clan truly lived up to the legends of their might from the distant past.
More than thirty Kui Ba clan members released no traces of power. They were merely ordinary members of their race.
I had no intention of killing these defenseless Kui Ba, so I simply knocked them unconscious and walked toward the king lying ten meters away on the ground.
"Haha, little fellow, is the Kui Ba clan really so ordinary? Haven't the Kui Ba really declined over the past three thousand years?" I half-squatted beside the fallen king, speaking to the colossal green monster in a tone of utter disdain. My oppressive aura caused the hulking green giant to tremble uncontrollably. Only then did a distant, ethereal old man's voice reach me from afar, deeply shocking me.
It was the voice I had heard upon entering, filled with kindness and gentleness, leaving me unable to imagine he could be a real human.
"Little one, let him go. He is merely a rogue Kui Ba, with only about thirty unlearned and unskilled rogues under him. He possesses no ruling ability and can be considered nothing but scum among the Kui Ba. Have him take you to me. I have something to say to you."
Following that voice, I realized the speaker was a thousand meters away. This was the so-called thousand-meter voice transmission.
I kicked the prone rogue Kui Ba, pointing toward the distant city a hundred meters away. "You are to take me to the source of that voice. This is the old man's arrangement. I hope you do not wish to disobey." With that, I patted the rogue's shoulder and lifted him from the ground.
The Kui Ba glanced at the more than thirty clan members who had been knocked flat in an instant, then nodded, indicating I should follow. Together we made our way into the interior of this underground alien city.
At this point, the rogue Kui Ba dared not speak, silently guiding me deeper into the underground metropolis.
However, I noticed something odd: the closer we got to the center, the more the residents resembled humans. When we reached the area near the city's heart, I finally saw some Kui Ba with human faces.
Yet these human-faced Kui Ba, upon seeing the green giant beside me, displayed open disdain, and someone behind me murmured, "What is going on? Wasn't it forbidden for low-level Kui Ba to enter the inner sanctum? How did this fellow manage to bring one inside?"
Hearing these human-shaped Kui Ba speak of the green giant, I felt the one walking ahead was not at all pleased.
But when I turned to look at the massive creature, I saw him lower his head in silence, appearing both inferior and sorrowful.
This green Kui Ba stood over two meters tall with a physique as sturdy as that of the Hulk. I could not understand why the human-faced ones belittled their own kind in such a manner.
Although the green Kui Ba who escorted me to Leight's residence had been disrespectful earlier, I am not a petty person. I believed he carried his own burdens, so I walked beside him, patted his shoulder, and said, "Hey, friend, if you don't mind, let's be friends. My name is Hu Xiaodong—what about you?" Then I gazed at him with sincere eyes.
His body was half a meter taller than mine, so I had to rise on tiptoe to reach his shoulder.
I expected some reply, but he said little. He only answered, "My name is Bak. Everyone calls me Big Guy. As long as you forget what happened before, I would be delighted to be friends with you."
I smiled. I had not expected his voice to be so simple and honest, truly befitting the name Big Guy for his build.
"Leight Grandpa's residence is here. I think I should return. The Kui Ba here will not wish to be friends with us. We low-level Kui Ba lack the abilities that these human-shaped Kui Ba possess from birth, so we can never compare to them." After speaking, Bak pointed to a wooden door and signaled me to enter, then lowered his head and turned to leave.
I had not expected the rogue king Bak to appear so lonely. Perhaps only the outer reaches of the city brought him true joy.
"Hey, Big Guy, let's go in together. I want to see what Leight has to tell me. I am unfamiliar with this place, and later you'll need to show me around." With that, I urged Bak to follow me inside.
Bak hesitated briefly but showed no initiative, apparently fearing his Leight grandpa might beat or humiliate him.
A low-level Kui Ba, facing an elder at the highest level, felt as inferior as a commoner before an emperor. Knowing his lowly station, after hesitating for about two minutes, the old man's ethereal voice drifted from the courtyard.
"Bak boy, come in as well. It is good I have something to tell you."
Hearing those words, I was naturally delighted. With Bak at my side, I ran forward and pulled him toward the courtyard.
My one-meter-something frame dragging a two-meter-five-six giant Kui Ba was impossible to manage by ordinary strength. Had Bak not walked willingly, I would have had to use force to carry him in.
Leight's residence was a spacious courtyard in the style of Beijing's siheyuan, suggesting he had refined tastes.
Just pushing open the door, I felt a chill. It seemed I was about to experience the saying "strangers become friends through fighting." From that chill, I sensed the momentum Leight emitted. Yet Bak knew nothing of this, for he was not a superpowered being with strong sensing abilities.
The room was square, containing only a stone bed, a stone table with four stone stools, and a stone pot holding four cups. Apart from clothing, nothing else remained. The entire space was impeccably clean, unlike any residence of high status. The old man sat upon one of the four stools, facing me and Bak who had just entered.
Bak's movements were clumsy. His towering frame collided with the door upon entry, prompting him to call out "ow, ow~" repeatedly.
Seeing Leight, an elegant old man with an aged yet refined face, standing motionless, Bak and I prepared to step forward in greeting. But before I could speak, Leight moved first against me.
He attacked while declaring, "Let me see whether the strength of your zombie clan has grown over the past three thousand years, so that you may obtain a treasure left by our Brute the Lord."
Though I did not understand his meaning, I met him head-on, and the battle commenced.
(Leight the old man struck without explanation, claiming that only by defeating him could one obtain the treasure left by Brute. Moreover, his words suggest he knows of the zombie clan from a thousand years ago. What is the relationship between Leight and that ancient zombie clan? What is the treasure he mentioned, and what hidden truths lie beneath? To learn how events unfold next, please listen to the analysis in the following chapter! The next chapter promises even greater excitement!)
