Chapter 16: It Is Your Misfortune to Have Provoked Me
On the other side, after waiting for twenty minutes, Guan Sheng was finally approached by a male waiter carrying a takeout bag.
“Honored guest, here is the meal you ordered.”
“Please pay here. Card or cash?” The waiter gestured toward the cashier.
Guan Sheng opened the bag and glanced inside. His gaze suddenly sharpened as he coldly demanded, “Where is my Buddha Jumps Over the Wall?”
“Ah… well…” The waiter’s eyes flickered with a hint of panic.
“Speak,” Guan Sheng pressed.
The waiter offered an excuse, “The kitchen ran out of ingredients.”
Guan Sheng scoffed, “Do you think I’d believe that?”
“If you were out of ingredients, why didn’t you tell me when I ordered?”
“And now you say there aren’t any? Are you trying to play me for a fool?”
Anyone with even a rudimentary knowledge of facial expressions could tell if someone was lying—especially a seasoned hitman like Guan Sheng.
The waiter was lying.
In an instant, a powerful aura burst forth from Guan Sheng. The overwhelming pressure made the waiter tremble all over, terrified.
He was just a waiter—how could he dare provoke someone important?
“Honored guest, please stop questioning me.”
“I’m just a nobody.”
“Speak!” Guan Sheng’s tone remained icy as he unsheathed his knife, pointing it directly at the waiter’s head.
With a swift motion—
The waiter was terrified. Seeing the gleaming blade, his legs shook uncontrollably, sweat breaking out on his back.
At that moment, the floor manager, Li Chen, stepped forward.
“I have to say, sir, brandishing a knife here at Old Jiangnan is against the rules.”
Guan Sheng looked at him grimly. “Where is my Buddha Jumps Over the Wall?”
Li Chen smiled faintly, brushing aside the knife with his fingers and pushing the waiter aside arrogantly.
“If I were you, I wouldn’t be asking where your dish went. I’d be paying and leaving quietly.”
“Though I don’t know how you got that VIP card, from my experience, you’re nothing more than a runner—not some important figure.”
Hearing this, Guan Sheng sneered disdainfully. So, judging by appearances, was it?
Li Chen eyed his clothes up and down. “You’re wearing a decent brand, good quality materials, but they look cheap on you.”
“People who can afford those clothes wouldn’t be so reckless with knives.”
“This is Old Jiangnan. The big shots behind this hotel hate troublemakers on their turf. It’s common knowledge among Jiangcheng’s upper class, but you don’t seem to get it.”
“I’m right, aren’t I? That card isn’t yours.”
Guan Sheng’s gaze was indifferent. “Where’s my dish?”
He couldn’t care less about who was important or what the rules said.
Li Chen still didn’t grasp the gravity of the situation and sneered, “Are you really that stupid or just pretending?”
“Listen, runner, can’t you be a little smarter?”
“They told you the dish was gone, yet you still ask where it went?”
“Are you blind or just slow?”
Suddenly, the short, long blade was raised again.
Li Chen’s expression changed as he felt the sharpness of the knife. He swallowed nervously. “Don’t be shameless.”
“I’ve been very polite to you already.”
“Do you think having a VIP card allows you to wreak havoc here? Let me tell you, there are levels among big shots, and yours is the lowest-quality VIP card.”
“Besides, that other guest’s status is far superior to yours.”
“Oh?” Guan Sheng’s expression shifted. “So my dish was intercepted by someone else?”
Li Chen smiled. “And so what?”
“That person’s status is beyond your reach. I suggest you be sensible and leave.”
“I’m willing to offer you a discount as compensation.”
Compensation?
Ha!
What good is compensation?
The dish he ordered was stolen by someone else just because that person had a higher status. What kind of logic was that?
“Tell me where he is,” Guan Sheng demanded, unwilling to tolerate this any longer.
Li Chen shut his mouth and gave Guan Sheng a disdainful glance, as if utterly dismissing him.
Faced with such contempt, Guan Sheng acted.
A flick of his wrist, the knife came down.
“Crack!” The blade pierced Li Chen’s shoulder.
Blood gushed forth.
“Ahhhhh!” Li Chen screamed in agony, never expecting this man to really use a knife.
Feeling the fiery pain in his shoulder, he gasped for breath.
Guan Sheng’s expression remained cold as he pressed the blade deeper.
With each inch, Li Chen’s body weakened until he couldn’t help but kneel down.
With a thud, he dropped to his knees, his clothes stained crimson.
In an instant, everyone in the lounge was stunned into silence. Waiters scattered, chaos erupted.
Guan Sheng said coldly, “I won’t ask again.”
“Where is the person who stole my dish?”
This time, Li Chen no longer showed arrogance. The fear of death shook him, and he begged, “On the third floor, the Emperor’s private suite.”
“Don’t kill me, don’t kill me.”
Guan Sheng lifted his knife, grabbed the takeout meal, and headed upstairs.
...
Soon, he found the Emperor’s private suite. Without hesitation, he kicked the door open.
With a loud bang, the door flew inward.
Inside, everyone was startled.
Xu Tao, sipping red wine, tensed and glanced toward the entrance. When he saw Guan Sheng’s face, his expression darkened slightly.
Why was this guy here?
Several bodyguards hastily positioned themselves in front of Xu Tao.
Guan Sheng walked in, his eyes scanning the room before settling on the table.
There, his Buddha Jumps Over the Wall was placed before a young man with blond hair.
The youth was devouring the delicacy but paused when he saw Guan Sheng, still chewing on abalone.
Their eyes locked.
Guan Sheng’s gaze was as cold as steel.
The dish he had ordered was sitting on someone else’s table.
Playing games, were they?
He slowly set down the takeout meal and drew his knife.
“Are you the one who stole my Buddha Jumps Over the Wall?” he asked coldly.
The blond youth was stunned and looked at Xu Tao. “Young Master Xu... what’s going on?”
Xu Tao pushed aside his bodyguards, surprised that Guan Sheng had come to him willingly.
Since that was the case, there was no need to waste time.
He said coldly, “You refuse the path to heaven and come knocking at the gates of hell. Guan Sheng, you’re really asking for death.”
Guan Sheng glanced his way. “You stole my dish?”
Xu Tao sneered. “Stealing your dish is nothing.”
“I wanted to kill you.”
“You have the nerve to come here and eat after crippling my men? You sure know how to enjoy yourself.”
“Messing with me is your misfortune.”
Guan Sheng turned to him. “No, you’re wrong.”
Xu Tao frowned. “I’m wrong?”
Guan Sheng advanced, knife in hand.
“You should say, ‘Messing with me is your misfortune.’”
