Chapter 3: The Stunning Woman!
From the very first glance at Bishan’s backward appearance, Qin Feng was already discouraged and had thoughts of leaving. He had come with a mindset of “since I’m here, I might as well give it a try,” but he hadn’t expected to encounter a thug like Yang Delin right away. He couldn’t understand why a government office would harbor someone like that.
What frustrated Qin Feng even more was that he had no enmity with Yang Delin when they first met, yet Yang bore such intense hatred toward him. Qin Feng was naturally stubborn and never accepted defeat.
He picked up the towering pile of documents on the desk and flipped through them, then booted up the computer and searched around. A few minutes later, Qin Feng suddenly smiled. He was a graduate of Jiangnan University, a national key university. Due to his excellent grades, he had been hired by the headquarters of a Fortune 500 company in Shanghai after graduation. For Qin Feng, anything related to computers was trivial.
He opened a Word document and created a template based on the materials, then imported the information from an existing roster with a single click...
Before leaving work that afternoon, Yang Delin returned to the office and saw Qin Feng chatting with someone.
“Is this an office or a marketplace? Kid, you actually have time to chat here? You don’t understand the gravity of the situation, do you?” Yang Delin scolded him fiercely.
“I know. Didn’t you say I’d bear full responsibility if I didn’t upload everything to the system before leaving?”
“Good, so it seems you don’t intend to stay here, huh?” Yang Delin smirked.
“Why wouldn’t I stay?”
“If you want to stay, where’s the data? Is it done?”
“It’s finished and already uploaded. It’s just a small amount of stuff—it didn’t even take ten minutes,” Qin Feng yawned.
“Are you kidding? How’s that possible? Do you think I’m that easy to fool? Show me where your finished data is.”
There was only one computer in the entire office, and Yang Delin didn’t understand it at all—not even how to turn it on—so he could only ask Qin Feng to open it for him.
Qin Feng lazily opened the computer and showed Yang Delin each file he had prepared.
“Want me to open all 800-plus files and show you one by one?” Qin Feng joked.
“That can’t be... no way...” Yang Delin was dumbfounded. Previously, Xiao Zhou, who had been in charge of this data, took half a month to finish it. He simply couldn’t fathom how Qin Feng had done it all in one afternoon.
In reality, Qin Feng only took ten minutes.
After reviewing the last file, Yang Delin looked at Qin Feng with a mixture of fear and disbelief. “How did you do it? This can’t be true.”
“There are plenty of things you’d think impossible. You want to mess with me? Let’s see what you can actually do,” Qin Feng stared him down.
Yang Delin hadn’t expected a newcomer to be so bold. He was at his wit’s end. If he didn’t crush Qin Feng, how could he save face?
“Alright, you’re impressive. But I’ll make you regret this! Pack your things—you're going to the nursing home!”
“The nursing home? Why on earth should I go there?”
Qin Feng didn’t know what the nursing home was, but even a grain of common sense told him it wasn’t somewhere good. Yang Delin was clearly out for revenge.
“Why? Because I’m the deputy director.”
“Director Xiao assigned me to manage the data here.”
“Xiao Bo? Who cares about Xiao Bo? I’m in charge of the Civil Affairs Office. This is the job assigned to you. You can refuse, but you do so at your own risk.”
Qin Feng ignored Yang Delin and walked next door to knock on Director Xiao’s office door.
“Director Xiao, Deputy Director Yang wants me sent to the nursing home,” Qin Feng “complained.”
“Nursing home?” Xiao Bo hesitated, then smiled warmly. “Since Deputy Director Yang arranged for you to work at the nursing home, then you should go. The nursing home is under our Civil Affairs Office, and managing it is part of our responsibility.”
“But... but...”
“Young people should go to challenging places to gain experience. It will benefit your future development. Go!”
Qin Feng frowned but said no more. He realized the others in the office were right—Yang Delin was indeed the boss here in the Civil Affairs Office.
Returning to the office, Qin Feng immediately saw Yang Delin lounging back with his feet up.
“So, kid, how was the complaint? I told you, I run the Civil Affairs Office. You were so cocky before; why aren’t you showing off now?”
Qin Feng looked coldly at Yang Delin, packed his things, grabbed his suitcase, and prepared to leave.
“Kid, get ready to stay at the nursing home for the rest of your life! As long as I’m here, you’ll never come back!” Yang Delin laughed loudly.
Qin Feng gritted his teeth in rage and dragged his suitcase toward the nursing home.
Knowing nothing about this place, Qin Feng felt no fear or appreciation for the severity of the situation. He walked alone, suitcase in hand, backpack on his shoulders, heading to the nursing home.
Had he not become a civil servant, he would now be sitting in a high-rise office, sipping coffee and enjoying the company’s free refreshments.
“I must be crazy! Running off to this godforsaken place to be bullied by a thug.”
Looking at the endless mountains around him, Qin Feng’s anger and regret grew.
He asked his way as he went and arrived at the Bishan Nursing Home just before dark.
Seeing the nursing home nestled at the foot of the mountains, Qin Feng was stunned.
A row of seven or eight low, red-brick buildings with blue-tiled roofs stood there. Both bricks and tiles were aged and dilapidated, looking precarious.
An elderly person sat motionless at the door of each room, staring blankly into the distance.
From afar, Qin Feng felt as if these were statues. In the depths of the mountains, the sight was eerie.
“This is where I’m supposed to work?” Qin Feng found it hard to believe.
With no spare rooms or beds, that night Qin Feng had to share a bed with an old widower.
The man was elderly and ill, and with the poor conditions, Qin Feng suspected the man hadn’t bathed in a long time. The stench made Qin Feng nauseous all night.
Later, Qin Feng learned that although the nursing home was indeed under the Civil Affairs Office, no one was ever specifically assigned to manage it. This was clearly Yang Delin’s malicious scheme to get back at him.
Qin Feng had to admire Yang Delin’s cruelty. At that moment, he was ready to give up and harbored deep hatred for Yang.
With nothing to do, Qin Feng sat outside like the old folks, staring at the distant mountains. But while they saw memories, he saw a future full of uncertainty.
“Maybe I shouldn’t have come here at all,” Qin Feng sighed, doubting his life choices for the first time.
Just then, while Qin Feng sat gazing out from the nursing home, an extraordinarily beautiful woman entered the Bishan Township Government.
Her name was Hu Jiayun, the deputy party secretary of Bishan Township and the third most powerful figure there.
She was the most beautiful and mysterious woman in all of Bishan Township.
