Chapter 66: The Scheming Three-Headed Beasts
“Alright, though I can’t express it quite that way, Old Bronze, my feelings for you are sincere.” Zhang Kai gazed earnestly at the three-headed beast.
“I feel the same,” replied the three-headed beast. “Hmm, Diga, let’s go elsewhere and discuss how we might work together.”
“Of course,” Zhang Kai agreed with a smile.
He followed the beast behind the altar, where there was an open space. But as expected, these were beasts, not human, so there were no buildings—only nests.
Zhang Kai found a stone and sat down casually, looking at the three-headed beast. “Old Bronze, tell me—what’s on your mind?”
The beast replied, “How much do you know about the gods of this world?”
Zhang Kai laughed. “I do know a little. I even ran into one before—crossed me, paid the price. Took care of it. Why, are you interested too?”
“You took care of it? What about the divine body?” The beast pressed urgently.
“Anyone who dares provoke me, I grind their bones to dust,” Zhang Kai replied coolly. “There’s no better way to vent my anger.”
The three-headed beast stiffened inwardly.
This guy… is he really so ruthless?
“Diga, the world is changing. Spiritual energy is reviving. According to the instructions of the Alliance of the Heavens, when spiritual energy returns, it means the forbidden powers are weakening. That’s our chance. If our two races cooperate, we can divide this world between us,” the beast said, excitement in its voice.
Zhang Kai smiled. “Old Bronze, I don’t mean to underestimate you, but that Forbidden One could seal off a whole world—none across the heavens could do anything. Even as King of the Ultramen, I could only manage a draw. The two of us—well, we couldn't even stir up a ripple.”
“You don’t understand, Diga. The Forbidden One was badly wounded once by a being above the heavens—left with something on him that prevents him from moving freely. The revival of spiritual energy means the world is changing. If we seize the initiative, we’ll outpace all the other races. When the Forbidden One tries to flee rather than die, this world will belong to us,” the beast explained.
“Is that so?” Zhang Kai feigned surprise, then asked, “How exactly do we cooperate? I’m alone, and as for you, you seem to be the only one of your kind active.”
“That’s why I need to awaken my clan from their slumber. For that, I need divine blood—or a divine soul,” the beast replied.
“Divine blood?” Zhang Kai echoed, pretending to be puzzled, though he was sneering inwardly.
So that’s why he wanted my blood earlier—to revive his kin.
Good thing I’m quick-witted.
“Yes. We need to track down those hiding gods, capture them, and use them to awaken my clan. Then we’ll be a step ahead of everyone else—ready to devour this world and break the forbidden seal, granting entry to both our races,” the beast answered with growing excitement.
Zhang Kai feigned hesitation. “That sounds promising, but I have my own mission. Years ago, there was an agreement between the Forbidden One and the Ultramen—I can’t use my full strength on Earth. If I try, I’ll be suppressed. I’m only here to investigate. This puts me in a tricky position.”
“Diga, great deeds require decisiveness. If your people have found this world, they must have plans too. If we secure it first, our superiors will only praise us. This is a rare chance for glory!” the beast urged.
Zhang Kai seemed tempted, pondered a moment, then gritted his teeth. “Since you’re so sincere, fine. I’m in—let’s go big.”
The beast was overjoyed. “A true brother! I know a place—a pocket realm created by a native god. Let’s go there, seize the deity, and with that my clan will awaken—tens of thousands of warriors, enough to sweep across the Earth.”
“Very well, I’ll follow your lead,” Zhang Kai replied.
“Then let’s go. It isn’t far. I saw that god create the realm with my own eyes. These gods think they can solve their problems by hiding, but really, they’re just making themselves vulnerable. Time to deal with him,” the beast said, all three heads grinning with ferocious anticipation.
Zhang Kai only smiled, saying nothing.
They left the underground world and raced through the forest. In less than half an hour, they reached a range of mountains, several of which were quite tall.
From the outside, there was nothing unusual about the place.
But following the beast, Zhang Kai soon found himself in a gorge between the peaks.
Here, he sensed a fluctuation of spiritual energy.
Clearly, there was a spiritual nexus here—a place that must once have been ideal for cultivation.
Yet as they entered the gorge, Zhang Kai sensed something else: a cold, heavy yin energy, far denser than the spiritual energy, as if it had accumulated for countless years.
“Something’s off here, darling,” came Liu Ernian’s voice in Zhang Kai’s ear.
He remained expressionless.
She continued, “The yin energy here seeps up from underground, thick with the aura of death. There’s a nether spring below.”
A nether spring!
Zhang Kai narrowed his eyes.
A nether spring is a place where the realm of the dead seeps into the world, constantly bathed in the breath of the Underworld, imbued with its properties.
More eerily, places tainted by the Underworld often spawn all manner of strange things, some seemingly weak yet possessing special powers—dangerous even for cultivators of the core formation level and above.
If this really was a nether spring, then this three-headed creature was probably digging another pit for him.
Damn it, he’d woven an elaborate scheme, but in the end, it was all aimed at me?
Doesn’t this bastard have any ambition? Couldn’t he let me turn him against a god instead?
Suppressing his inward complaints, Zhang Kai kept his expression neutral.
At last, he and the three-headed beast reached a pool.
The water was black and still, as deep as an ancient well.
“This is the entrance. Go down here and you’ll reach the god’s pocket realm,” said the beast, looking at Zhang Kai.
“Alright, Old Bronze, you lead. I’ll cover the rear,” Zhang Kai replied.
“Very well. Follow me,” the beast said, and leapt in, sending up a spray of water.
Zhang Kai paused briefly, then transformed into Ultraman before plunging in after.
No sooner had he entered than a bone-chilling cold seeped into him, penetrating to his very core.
Then, he saw a head lunging for his neck, jaws wide.
Damn it, this bastard really is trying to set me up!
But Zhang Kai was prepared. Unfazed, his body instantly turned golden.
Ultraman’s form combined with the Invincible Diamond Body technique, producing a marvelous effect.
The cold vanished without a trace. Zhang Kai reached out and seized the beast’s upper jaw, then, with his other hand, unleashed the Seven-Spiral Slash, thrusting straight into the creature’s gaping mouth.
Die!
