Chapter 68: Triple Enhancement, Utterly Beyond Human
Nourished by the vast internal force, the Super Soldier Serum’s development of the body had reached an almost inconceivable level.
Cells divided and regenerated, each rebirth more vigorous, more lively than the last. The changes within each cell brought about a transformation throughout the body.
His five organs seemed to have shed their former selves, as if reborn, washed clean of all the hidden illnesses accumulated over twenty years of eating, drinking, and sickness. Now, they brimmed with renewed vitality.
His bones and meridians were as if reforged, impurities purged, their quality elevated—a block of iron hammered into steel. Even his flesh felt denser, new muscles emerging where there had been none, distributed evenly and exuding a sense of power.
At last, the serum’s strengthening concluded, and Zhang Kai was utterly transformed.
His height had increased by several centimeters, now standing at about one meter eighty-two or eighty-three. His body had grown sturdier—not broad and burly, but robust, the physique of a hardened man.
As he flexed his limbs, a surging power seemed to gather within him, waiting to erupt. It felt as if a single punch could shatter a mountain. Though this was merely the illusion of newfound strength, the increase itself was real; setting aside the inner force, his raw physical power had already surpassed the human limit.
He also received a mental boost. Whereas before he relied solely on instinct, now Zhang Kai, even without using inner force, could sense every subtle disturbance within a hundred meters around him, allowing him to respond instantaneously to attacks from any direction.
This advancement of the mind was the greatest of all, eliminating the risk of unforeseen disaster. Truly worthy of its reputation, the Super Soldier Serum was extraordinary—a single injection could achieve what ordinary prodigies would fail to accomplish after a lifetime of martial arts training.
Even cultivators would be envious.
Yet, for the challenges he now faced, it still wasn’t enough.
For Zhang Kai was to stand against gods—gods with both status and power.
He needed to become even stronger.
His gaze fell upon the Hulk in the movie. The transformation of the green giant was caused by gamma rays, a genetic mutation—an unrepeatable process. But with the actual being before him, there was a simpler path: acquire the Hulk’s blood, absorb his genes, and fuse them within himself. The likelihood of success would be greater still.
Zhang Kai hesitated for a moment, but in the end, he resolved to try.
The allure of the Hulk’s power was too great to resist—strength without limit, growing with rage. With such might, Zhang Kai would dare face any foe, no matter how monstrous. Physical force, taken to the extreme, could yield miraculous results.
He played the second Hulk movie. In this one, Banner cut his hand, letting a drop of blood fall. This was Zhang Kai’s only chance to obtain the green giant’s power.
He found the bottle with the blood, paused the scene, and retrieved the soda bottle. Staring at the blood within, Zhang Kai closed his eyes and took a lick.
At once, his body stiffened as a mysterious force spread through his mouth and rapidly permeated his body.
The next moment, every cell within him became more active, even somewhat violent. An unexplainable anger welled up inside, his breathing growing heavy.
Seeing this terrifying side of Zhang Kai, Madam Liu was so frightened she dared not speak, hiding in the corner to watch.
Then, Madam Liu’s eyes widened in disbelief.
Zhang Kai’s skin gradually took on a deep green hue, his body swelling, growing more and more massive—nearly doubling in size. He now stood over two meters tall, his arms thicker than a strong man’s thighs, an aura of danger emanating from him.
Yet, unlike Banner in the movies, Zhang Kai could still control his body.
The Super Soldier Serum’s enhancement of his mind prevented him from being overwhelmed by rage, maintaining a delicate balance.
But for now, his mental strength was still insufficient to sustain the Hulk’s full power—the imbalance too great.
To truly master the Hulk’s abilities, he would need to continuously strengthen his mind.
There was, conveniently, the psychic crystal.
A group of ordinary people had discovered the crystal in a pit; after contact, they’d fallen unconscious and gained abilities, only to lose control of their powers. But their contact had been fleeting.
Zhang Kai opened the movie, paused it, and extracted the entire crystal from the pit.
It was not small, covered in rough stones with sharp points, rotating between white and red light.
No sooner had it emerged than the crystal emitted a wave that stimulated Zhang Kai’s mind, making him feel dizzy and uncomfortable.
But soon he adapted.
After all, if a few young people could endure it for a while, his mental strength, now several times that of an ordinary person, could easily withstand it.
Sitting beside the crystal, Zhang Kai continuously subjected himself to its stimulation.
He could feel his mental power changing, the growth as rapid as with the Super Soldier Serum, perhaps even faster.
This mental breakthrough made his head grow heavy, but Zhang Kai clenched his fists, gritted his teeth, and endured. His eyes grew bloodshot, his breathing even rougher.
Finally, he could hold out no longer. He dashed out of the cave, roaring—a savage, furious sound that shook the surroundings.
Down in the river by the waterfall, three fierce beasts surfaced. Hearing the roar, all three heads turned, eyes full of disbelief.
That voice—it was the boy’s, but how could it be so terrifying?
What had happened to him?
Releasing his fury outside the cave, Zhang Kai, in Hulk form, punched the ground, making the earth tremble; he hammered the rock wall, cracking its surface with fissures.
After destroying much, Zhang Kai felt his mental power finally stabilize. Gritting his teeth, he reentered the cave.
Again and again, between cave and riverbank, he subjected himself to the psychic crystal’s power.
At last, after more than ten sessions, the crystal’s light faded, it shattered, and crumbled to dust.
Now, Zhang Kai’s mental power had reached unimaginable heights—his perception extended for at least a hundred kilometers.
He had long since detected the presence of the three-headed beast, but he paid it no mind, lost in the euphoria of his own ascent.
Having absorbed the crystal’s energy completely, his eyes still red, Zhang Kai leapt kilometers in a single bound, landing by the riverbank. He gazed at the three-headed beast lurking below and strode directly toward it.
As he entered the water, the river parted before him, creating a path—an application of his mental power.
His starting point already far surpassed those foolish, out-of-control children.
The parted water revealed the three-headed beast beneath.
Seeing the approaching Hulk-like Zhang Kai, the beast stammered, “Aren’t you one of the Ultraman clan?”
Zhang Kai said nothing, continuing closer.
The three-headed beast panicked, trying to dive, but the walls of water, held firm by Zhang Kai’s will, were as solid as stone; it could not reenter the water.
Now even more terrified, the beast turned to Zhang Kai and pleaded, “Wait, do you remember? We were to become sworn brothers!”
