Chapter 154: The Assassin (1)
“That’s good. Once Coldblood Five leaves, you can get started right away,” Ye Lang said with a smile.
“Why do I feel like you’ve been making fools of us?” The others had the distinct sense that the kid had played them, though when they looked at Ye Lang, they couldn’t quite believe it.
First, he had asked for something impossible, then followed it with something difficult but achievable. It seemed like a tactic.
If Ye Lang had started by asking for something like braised bear paw, they would surely have refused. But now they were cheerfully agreeing.
As the saying went, ask for the moon, and you might still get a decent deal in the end!
They waited for Coldblood Five to come out, assuming it wouldn’t take long. But this time, unlike usual, the minutes kept dragging by, and there was still no sign of him.
“Why hasn’t he come out yet? I’m starving! Forget it, I’m going in!” Ye Lang couldn’t hold back any longer. He didn’t care who was inside—even the Son of Heaven would have to get out of his way.
Food comes first!
“What?! Frank, wait—”
By the time the others reacted, Ye Lang was already at the kitchen door and had gone inside. No one dared stop him now.
Even if Ye Lang hadn’t yet reached the kitchen, they might not have risked stopping him. They weren’t close to him, after all—just casual acquaintances, not close enough to put themselves in danger for him.
To them, even getting within three meters of the kitchen was dangerous. They could lose their lives at any moment.
Someone wondered how Ye Lang had gotten there so quickly. It had seemed to happen in the blink of an eye.
Had they been lost in thought too long and simply failed to notice?
“Mmm? That smells wonderful...” The moment Ye Lang opened the door, a rich aroma hit him. His already-empty stomach grew even more ravenous, and his mouth began to water.
Inside the kitchen, a man was tending the fire. Ye Lang’s sudden appearance took him completely by surprise. He had never imagined anyone would come in.
And this man was the only person in the kitchen. Though it was spacious, there was nowhere to hide.
So, in theory, this had to be Coldblood Five!
“Wahaha! What’s this? Can I eat it? If you don’t say anything, I’ll take that as a yes.” Ye Lang paid no attention to whether the man was Coldblood Five. His eyes were fixed on the food laid out on the table.
The beautifully prepared dishes looked delicious. Ye Lang ignored the man entirely, and gave no thought to what the food might contain.
After all, Coldblood Five was the only one in the kitchen. Judging by what everyone knew about him, the food was bound to be dangerous—some kind of weapon he used to kill.
There had been several occasions when he had lured people in with delicious food, only to lace it with Coldblood Thirteen’s poison, a poison no one could cure.
In short, the feast on the table could well be a silent instrument of murder!
No one there dared eat it. Even Coldblood One wouldn’t touch anything made by Coldblood Five. Even if Coldblood Five swore it was harmless, he wouldn’t risk it.
Perhaps only Ye Lang would dare eat it without a second thought. And, as it happened, he had no reason to worry: he was immune to every poison and knew more about poisons than most.
In truth, Ye Lang hadn’t even considered the possibility. He simply went ahead and ate.
“Mmm, not bad. It’s not quite as good as Fat Auntie’s, but it’s still fit for a feast,” Ye Lang said as he ate.
Coldblood Five stared at him, stunned. He seemed unable to believe that anyone would be bold enough to enter his kitchen and eat the food on the table.
“Who... are you?” Coldblood Five asked, his voice icy enough to feel like a knife-edged wind.
It was the killing intent in his voice, the kind that filled a person with the fear of death.
But Ye Lang felt nothing in particular.
“My name is... They call me Frank. You can call me that too,” Ye Lang replied.
“Frank? Why have I never heard of you?” Coldblood Five searched his memory, but couldn’t place the name. “Never mind. You must be new here. You don’t know who I am, so that’s why you’re being so bold.”
Coldblood Five had originally intended to let Ye Lang go, since ignorance was no crime. But then—
“I know who you are. You’re Coldblood Five. They said you were in here. I wouldn’t have come if you were around, but I was too hungry. You made all this, didn’t you? I never knew you had this talent. Could I come eat at your place sometime?” Ye Lang asked between bites, utterly unafraid.
“You have a lot of nerve,” Coldblood Five said coldly.
“I don’t know if I do. People say I’m stupid and don’t know how to be afraid,” Ye Lang said with a grin, as though he were proud of it.
Coldblood Five stared at him for a moment. “You really are stupid. How did you end up here?”
Someone like Ye Lang in the Coldblood Group was strange enough to make Coldblood Five uneasy. Bringing him here was practically an invitation for trouble. Once Ye Lang left, wouldn’t he blurt out all their secrets?
“Coldblood Thirteen brought me. He said he wanted to study my constitution,” Ye Lang answered without hiding anything.
“I see. What’s so special about it?” Coldblood Five asked indifferently. He knew Coldblood Thirteen had already handled countless people like Ye Lang, so it didn’t surprise him.
His question was merely casual. He didn’t particularly care about the answer.
“Nothing much. I’m immune to poison, and I have an attribute-less constitution,” Ye Lang replied offhandedly as he ate, chatting with Coldblood Five as though they were old friends. Anyone who saw this would have been left speechless.
Coldblood Five—the Coldblood Group’s famously ruthless assassin—was making small talk with a kid. It was hard to imagine anything more bizarre.
“What?! What did you just say?” Coldblood Five exclaimed, startled. It was an expression rarely seen on his face. Usually, there was only one thing written there: coldness.
The fact that he looked so astonished showed just how unexpected Ye Lang’s words had been.
