Chapter Seventy: Little Qing Arrives!
“Bang, bang, bang!”
The three stellar-class wolves besieging Liu Xuan were sent flying by Yang Ye’s fists.
“Mr. Yang!”
Liu Xuan cried out in astonishment when he saw Yang Ye come to his rescue. He had never expected that the sudden appearance of such a formidable fighter would turn out to be Yang Ye!
Yang Ye didn’t pause. Spinning swiftly, he landed a kick on the neck of a charging giant wolf.
With a dull thud, fur and flesh exploded from the wolf’s neck, leaving a gaping bloody hole. Its body soared dozens of meters through the air before crashing heavily to the ground.
Meanwhile, the two giant wolves that Yang Ye had knocked aside with his fists rolled across the ground, then sprang up and lunged at him.
Yang Ye leapt into the air, grabbing each wolf’s massive head with a hand, then smashed them together forcefully.
A loud crack resounded as the hard skulls shattered.
Two crimson beast cores splattered out, and Yang Ye swept them into his hand, the cores still slick with brain matter.
Landing lightly, Yang Ye spun away from the swipe of another giant wolf’s claw, then reached out and pressed down hard on its head.
The enormous wolf’s head was driven deep into the earth, and Yang Ye sat heavily on its neck. A sharp snap signaled the severing of the wolf’s cervical spine.
Yang Ye wiped the two stellar-class beast cores on the fur of the wolf beneath him, then stored them in his spatial ring.
Next, he drew his razor-sharp dagger and split open the skull of the wolf he’d killed by sitting on it, extracting another red beast core.
In the span of a moment, Yang Ye had claimed four beast cores—one from the late stellar stage, one from the mid stage, and two from the early stage.
There was still one wolf corpse left. Yang Ye rose, dagger in hand, and strode toward the carcass whose neck he had kicked open.
Liu Xuan stared at Yang Ye in a daze.
Watching Yang Ye slay the stellar-class wolves, Liu Xuan couldn’t help but recall four words—fluid as running water.
Each of Yang Ye’s movements carried a deadly elegance, simple yet direct, imbued with the beauty of slaughter.
Four stellar-class giant wolves fell in succession, and the remaining three nearby were cowed, crouching low and growling in subdued tones, not daring to approach.
Suddenly, one of the wolves raised its head and howled.
Clearly, it was calling for the Wolf King.
But the Wolf King, who had been directing the battle from afar, had already been slain by Yang Ye.
Receiving no answer, the stellar-class wolf’s red eyes glared as it and its two companions bared their fangs at Yang Ye and Liu Xuan, slowly retreating.
With the Wolf King dead, the pack descended into chaos.
This pack was formed from several groups. The death of the late-stage Wolf King left the original leaders unrestrained.
Each began to call out, summoning their own kin.
Upon hearing the calls, the wolves dispersed and began to gather around their respective leaders.
By now, Yang Ye had taken his fifth stellar-class beast core.
Seeing the disordered wolf pack, Yang Ye spread his arms wide and let out a loud shout.
At that moment, his aura and murderous intent surged forth.
The wolves, sensing Yang Ye’s presence and hearing his cry, tucked their tails and fled in all directions.
The pack had come swiftly and departed just as quickly, leaving over a thousand wolf corpses behind. In moments, they vanished without a trace.
“Where’s Benny?” Liu Xuan suddenly asked, puzzled.
By then, he could no longer sense Benny’s presence.
“He ran away!” Yang Ye replied with a smile. “When I took out the Wolf King, Benny couldn’t hold out any longer and escaped. People like him would never risk their lives for a woman.”
“Useless,” Liu Xuan said coolly.
…
With the wolf pack gone, the ground was littered with corpses, many of which belonged to star beasts whose bodies contained beast cores.
The fifteen surviving guards, grateful to still be alive, took up their knives and began to search through the heaps of wolf bodies.
Whenever they found a wolf beast above the Fallen Star rank, they would split open its skull and retrieve the core.
Yang Ye had no interest in these low-level beast cores.
The three women had already stepped out of the car.
Surveying the fields of wolf corpses and breathing in the heavy scent of blood, their faces were pale.
Liu Xuan took out a box of cigarettes, offered one to Yang Ye, and lit it for him.
The two men leaned against the car, gazing into the distance at the great canyon, smoking in silence.
“It’s been a long time since I’ve fought so freely,” Liu Xuan said quietly.
Yang Ye smiled. “It’s nothing special.”
Liu Xuan glanced at Yang Ye and shook his head.
Nothing special?
Only Yang Ye could say such a thing.
Given Yang Ye’s displayed prowess, battling this wolf pack really was nothing special for him.
“Yang, since when did you start smoking?” Yang Yu approached, her expression gloomy, snatched the cigarette from Yang Ye’s hand, and crushed it underfoot.
Yang Ye recalled that Long Xiaoqing disliked the smell of smoke as well, and offered an awkward smile.
“It’s nothing! Smoking makes Yang Ye seem more masculine,” Lina said with a smile, trailing behind Yang Ye.
“Lina, didn’t you dislike men who smoke?” Xia Li laughed.
Earlier, from the car, Lina had watched Yang Ye’s heroic display through binoculars.
Suddenly, she felt Yang Ye met all the criteria for her future husband.
“It’s different!” Lina replied shyly, after Xia Li spoke.
In truth, Lina knew why Xia Li had invited her along.
At first, she hadn’t cared at all, and her initial impression of Yang Ye was not favorable.
But now, with Yang Ye’s sudden ‘eruption,’ her perception had shifted dramatically.
Yang Ye’s ‘disregard’ had become the hallmark of a true master.
Seeing Lina’s obvious interest in Yang Ye, Xia Li shook her head slightly, feeling a pang of pity for Lina.
“Are all cultivators from China so formidable?” Lina stared at Yang Ye with curiosity.
First there was Inspector Ye, and now Yang Ye had shown extraordinary strength. To Lina, as a cultivator herself, this was astonishing.
Of course, she didn’t know that Yang Ye and Ye Tianzu were actually the same person.
There were not many cultivators in the world capable of transcending their realms in battle.
Liu Xuan recalled the black mask Yang Ye had worn earlier and the Tianxun’s presence just off the coast of America, and he began to suspect the truth.
“No, just a few,” Yang Ye replied calmly, meeting Lina’s ardent gaze.
Lina was about to ask Yang Ye about the situation in China, but suddenly a phone rang from the car behind them.
It was Yang Ye’s phone. He hurried over, pulled open the door, and picked it up.
Seeing the caller ID, Yang Ye immediately knew it was Long Xiaoqing.
“Husband, look to your left!”
Long Xiaoqing’s voice came through the receiver.
Yang Ye turned his head, and in the dim light, a beautiful figure appeared before his eyes.
He dropped the phone and spread his arms wide toward the silhouette.
A rush of wind sounded.
And then, a beautiful woman appeared in Yang Ye’s embrace.
Yang Ye held Long Xiaoqing tight in his arms.
After more than half a month apart, it felt to him as if he hadn’t seen her in years.
