Chapter Twenty: Where There Is a Hidden Dragon, There Will Surely Be a Phoenix Chick!
Leaving the village where the driving school was located, the vehicle slowly moved along the asphalt road from the small county town toward the city. It was just past five o’clock, the typical time for the end of the workday, and the traffic had noticeably increased. Various lights flickered, and when the traffic light at the intersection turned red, the vehicles all slammed on their brakes, turning the entire junction into a sea of red.
“Beep! Beep!”
There seemed to be a traffic jam at the intersection ahead. From Gu Yin’s vantage point, not only were the cars crawling along, but there were also some electric bikes and tricycles squeezed into the crowd. Occasionally, students in blue school uniforms could be seen walking out.
“Looks like some students are getting out of school,” Gu Yin remarked casually.
Ahead was the local Experimental Middle School. It just happened to be Friday, and between four and five o’clock was precisely when the students finished their day.
“Damn…” Gu Yin felt a headache coming on.
The area by the school gate was a notorious “hotspot” for traffic congestion. The traffic police had a saying: during dismissal time, illegal parking near the school wouldn't be penalized, so the roadside was completely packed with cars at that hour.
Worse still, these parents didn’t just park on the curbside or secondary lanes; some foolish parents even stopped in the second lane.
When one car stopped, others followed suit, blocking two of the three lanes just to make picking up their kids more convenient…
This was the root cause of the congestion up ahead.
[The most infuriating thing is this reckless parking!]
Viewers watching this scene couldn’t help but vent online:
[There’s a middle school under my apartment; every Friday afternoon after two, forget about driving out—totally gridlocked!]
[The problem is the traffic police don’t enforce it. They say temporary roadside parking during dismissal isn’t punished, but they never said you could block the second lane!]
[Really, one time I got stuck and called the cops—they didn’t even bother to show up.]
[Ha, do you think the cops don’t know there’s a jam? They just can’t be bothered to come…]
Nearby the elementary school was the exit of a residential complex, with a few cars trying to leave.
Coincidentally, that exit also served as the exit for the non-motorized vehicle lane. Many parents who had picked up their children drove their cars down the non-motorized lane to leave through that entrance.
This caused a severe bottleneck at the exit, with everyone jostling to squeeze through…
And the funny part was, a black SUV—apparently here to pick up a child—noticed an opening at the exit and actually planned to park right in front of the residential complex’s gate.
“Hey, hey!”
The security guard at the gate, responsible and alert, immediately stepped forward and shouted at the driver to move along.
“I’m just picking up a kid, parking for a few minutes, geez…” the driver grumbled from the seat.
“Tsk, tsk.”
Gu Yin couldn’t help but shake his head, feeling a bit sorry for the security guard.
They were now following a white Katalak passenger vehicle that was also approaching the same exit by the residential complex. Everything seemed normal as they neared the worst jammed spot. Gu Yin thought that once they got past this section, the traffic would clear.
But just then, the brake lights of the white Katalak suddenly lit up.
Gu Yin didn’t immediately realize the gravity of the situation. He simply saw the car braking, so he braked too, assuming maybe there was a student crossing…
Nowadays, failing to yield to pedestrians is heavily fined with photo evidence. Once, Gu Yin had stopped at a crosswalk and was fined because an old man wasn’t even crossing but was just standing by the roadside picking up plastic bottles. Ridiculous!
So, when the Katalak braked, Gu Yin thought he could wait a moment. After all, they had been stuck this long; what was a little more time?
But what happened next stunned Gu Yin, Summer Qianyi, Meng Meng, and the tens of thousands of viewers watching the scene…
The Katalak, which was driving in the only third lane not blocked by parents picking up kids and still passable, stopped there and didn’t move for a long time.
Then, the driver’s door suddenly opened.
A woman wearing a gray dress stepped out, slammed the door shut with a bang, and then—
She turned and walked away. Without looking back.
She didn’t lock the car, didn’t glance back, and from a distance, you could even see she was wearing… slippers!
At that moment—
Gu Yin: “???”
Summer Qianyi: “???”
Meng Meng: “???”
The viewers: “???”
The drivers behind: “???”
The security guard: “???”
Everyone was dumbfounded!
What the hell was she doing?!
Just parking the car in the middle of the road and abandoning it?!
Leaving the vehicle and walking off?!
The jam behind was already terrible!
During rush hour, everyone was anxious to get home, the congestion was already miserable, and now this idiot was blocking the road and refusing to move?!
The first and second lanes were blocked by these parents picking up kids, and now the only third lane was occupied by this clown!
“Beep! Beep!”
Gu Yin’s patience snapped instantly; he slammed his hand down on the horn and wouldn’t let go.
“Beep! Beep! Beep!”
Many cars behind him joined in, honking frantically, all trying to get the woman’s attention.
Some drivers even rolled down their windows, each politely shouting:
“What the hell are you doing?!”
“Damn it, you just abandoned your car there?!”
“Are you crazy, you damn—”
Despite all the yelling…
Despite everyone’s outrage!
The female Katalak driver only glanced back a few times but ignored them, then turned and walked toward the school gate, apparently also coming to pick up a child.
[Well, well, well, this little rascal really opened my eyes…]
Viewers vented furiously in the comments:
[I thought parking in front of the residential complex was outrageous enough, but parking in the middle of the road? Who does she think she is?!]
[She acts like the entire road belongs to her!]
[And the kicker? She’s driving in slippers. Seriously, mad respect for these female drivers!]
…
It was utterly absurd!
Sometimes, it’s not about discriminating against female drivers; it’s just that some of them create so many ridiculous stories.
These little princesses, spoiled rotten by their parents or husbands at home, think the whole world must obey them, that every road belongs to their family, and they can park wherever they please without others complaining.
One humorous moment was when Gu Yin looked over at the security guard at the residential complex’s gate.
This same security guard, who had just chased off another parent trying to block the exit, must have been utterly stunned.
He probably thought parking in front of the complex was the worst he’d see—until he met this one.
Where there is a hidden dragon, there is always a phoenix, after all…
