Chapter 2: Are You Sick? If You Can’t Do It, Then Let’s Get Divorced.

Almost the very next second—
The door was kicked open with a loud bang, and Jiang Yi appeared in the doorway, his face dark and forbidding.
“Jiang Yi, if you’re sick, go get treated. Why come here and make a scene?” Qin Wanyi frowned.
The man ignored the mockery in her voice. “I called you last night. Why didn’t you answer?”
His entire presence radiated icy anger as he strode toward her, each word clipped and deliberate. “You really enjoyed yourself all night, didn’t you?”
“Yes.” Qin Wanyi admitted it calmly. “I did.”
“So this is what it feels like to lose yourself in romance. If I’d known sooner, I wouldn’t have waited until now.”
“And Young Master Jiang wasn’t exactly idle last night either, was he?”
Her gaze swept over his neck. In addition to the marks from last night’s kisses, several fresh scratches stood out against his skin, red and glaring.
Qin Wanyi felt a sudden tightness in her chest and said, “Let’s get divorced.”
“Divorced?” Jiang Yi whipped his head toward her in disbelief. “You want a divorce over some lowly bodyguard, Qin Wanyi?”
For three years, they had been locked in constant conflict. No matter how badly they fought, she had never once mentioned divorce. What was she playing at now?
His brows drew together, his impatience evident. “Don’t make jokes that serve no purpose.”
Qin Wanyi suddenly looked up, belatedly realizing something.
“Where is Pei Yinian? What did you do to him?”
Last night had not been a dream.
Pei Yinian had been by her side for so many years. Even when something required his attention, he would always let her know.
Unless—
“Qin Wanyi, don’t tell me you’ve developed feelings for this bodyguard.”
The temperature around Jiang Yi seemed to drop several degrees. “Don’t forget who you are!”
“That’s right, Sister. You’re still Brother Yi’s wife in name. How could you do something so shameless?”
Lin Xiaoxiao stepped out from behind the man, clutching his arm as she pleaded softly, “I know you don’t like me, Sister, but since you’ve married into the Jiang family, you should at least listen to my advice.”
“My mother has only one daughter, so don’t pretend we’re family.”
The merciless words brought tears to the woman’s eyes.
Jiang Yi’s anger flared instantly. Pointing at Qin Wanyi’s nose, he shouted, “Qin Wanyi! If you hadn’t forced Xiaoxiao to leave back then, she wouldn’t have suffered so much abroad. And now you still dare bully her!”
“You think my father was donating several million every year for charity?” Qin Wanyi sneered, watching the guilty look spread across the woman’s face. “Tell me, exactly how was it suffering to live in a mansion and drive sports cars?”
“I haven’t even called her a bastard, and you’re already rushing to defend her?”
“You!”
Jiang Yi instinctively raised his hand. But when his eyes met the woman’s clear gaze, his arm froze in midair.
Qin Wanyi looked at him with an unfamiliar, mocking expression.
“Jiang Yi, do you dare swear that nothing ever happened between you and her?”
Jiang Yi said nothing. Slowly, his arm dropped.
At that moment, Qin Wanyi felt so sickened that she nearly vomited.
“My lawyer will send you the divorce agreement.”
“Jiang Yi, we’re completely finished.”

Qin Wanyi went to the hospital.
Her footsteps halted abruptly when she reached the ward.
“Mr. Pei, do you have someone you like?”
“Yes, it’s been the whole morning. Why haven’t we seen any of your family? Do you live alone?”
Through the crack in the door, several young nurses were gathered around the man, fawning over him.
Pei Yinian’s face was completely obscured, but she could hear his voice—
Cold and utterly devoid of warmth.
“I’m sorry, but I have no obligation to answer your questions.”
Only after the nurses awkwardly filed out of the room did Qin Wanyi finally see his face.
She had never seen Pei Yinian look so wretched.
The man lay on the hospital bed, his forehead wrapped in thick bandages with faint traces of blood seeping through. Half of his face was turned toward her, and bruising extended from his cheekbone to his jaw, making his already pale features appear even more fragile.
There was an injury at the corner of his mouth as well.
When he saw her, Pei Yinian lowered his eyes and addressed her obediently. “Miss.”
The movement seemed to tug at the wound on his lips, and the man winced.
He looked unbearably pitiful.
Qin Wanyi felt an inexplicable ache in her chest. She walked over and tossed a bank card onto the bed.
“…Rest properly. There’s five hundred thousand on it. Consider it compensation.”
Pei Yinian lowered his gaze to the card and shook his head lightly. “There’s no need, Miss. I’m fine.”
Qin Wanyi stared at him, distracted.
Had his eyelashes always been that long?
When his brows and eyes were lowered, his long lashes cast a shadow over his eyelids. It was strangely beautiful.
Meeting the man’s bewildered gaze, Qin Wanyi abruptly looked away. “Don’t worry. You’re my man. I won’t let you suffer this beating for nothing.”
Pei Yinian replied evenly, “It’s all right. Young Master Jiang was only venting his anger on me.”
“Now that he’s gotten it out of his system, he won’t quarrel with you anymore.”
Her heart trembled.
She didn’t know whether she had been bewitched by the man’s face or whether last night’s passion had clouded her mind. In any case…
She was beginning to see Pei Yinian differently.
And then there was Jiang Yi.
She sneered. Did he really think she was someone easy to bully?
Perhaps Jiang Yi had forgotten what happened when she once split his head open.
The instant the ward door closed, the weakness vanished completely from Pei Yinian’s face.
“Handle it cleanly. Leave no trace.”
After setting down his phone, the man began idly turning the bank card between his fingertips, a hint of amusement veiling his eyes.
For several days in a row, Qin Wanyi did not return home.
She had her family’s lawyer draw up a divorce agreement and send it directly to Jiang Yi.
Yet no matter what she sent, it disappeared without a trace.
Qin Wanyi finally called Jiang Yi herself, her tone impatient. “Have you read the divorce agreement? Sign it when you have time, then go to the civil affairs office and get the divorce certificate.”

Instead, Jiang Yi’s assistant answered from the other end, his voice filled with panic.
“Madam! President Jiang has been in a car accident. He’s being resuscitated at the hospital!”
At first, Qin Wanyi thought he was putting on an act.
That was until Jiang Yi’s parents called her as well.
“All right. Don’t worry, Mom and Dad. I’m on my way.”
After offering the two of them a few brief words of reassurance, Qin Wanyi drove straight to the hospital.
By coincidence, Jiang Yi and Pei Yinian were at the same hospital.
Before going to see her awful husband, Qin Wanyi first stopped by Pei Yinian’s ward.
To her surprise, he was not there.
“Didn’t the doctor say he wouldn’t be able to get out of bed for a week?” Qin Wanyi muttered.
Before giving him the card last time, she had specifically asked the doctor about his condition.
It had been quite serious. He had three broken ribs and numerous external injuries, with bruises covering nearly every inch of skin beneath his clothes.
She had charged all of it to Jiang Yi.
She hadn’t expected heaven itself to intervene before she had the chance to settle the score.
“Brother Yi, it’s all my fault! If you hadn’t protected me, you wouldn’t have been hurt so badly. Sob…”
Qin Wanyi’s hand stopped on the ward door.
Jiang Yi’s face was pale, and one arm was in a cast. Even so, he had freed his other hand to stroke Lin Xiaoxiao’s hair, comforting her gently.
“It has nothing to do with you. I simply wasn’t paying attention.”
“Brother Yi…”
Lin Xiaoxiao threw herself into the man’s arms, sobbing uncontrollably.
Qin Wanyi stood in the doorway and watched until the astonished voices of Jiang Yi’s parents came from behind her.
“Wanyi, why are you standing at the door instead of going in?”
When the door was pushed open, the two of them moved apart slightly.
Lin Xiaoxiao’s eyes were rimmed with red as she lowered her head and wiped away her tears. Jiang Yi’s hospital gown was rumpled at the collar, where faint damp marks from tears could still be seen.
Qin Wanyi suddenly felt exhausted.
This was not the first time she had felt this way when facing Jiang Yi. In fact, throughout their three-year marriage, apart from the initial joy and excitement, every day had been a torment.
Dealing with the women he kept outside their marriage was exhausting. Arguing with him day after day was exhausting.
Loving Jiang Yi was simply too exhausting.
She let out a quiet sigh.
When Jiang Yi saw her, he instinctively sat up in bed, his expression cold. “Why are you here?”
“To see how you are.”
This time, she did not answer with hostility.
The man’s expression softened considerably. Then, in the next moment—
“I sent the divorce agreement over, but you were too busy to read it. I brought it to you myself.”
